Chaps,

I'm recruiting flyering/delivery driver with their own cars to work flyering & delivering drinks in the evening and nights. The hours would be Friday & Saturday (Possibility to work Sun & Thursday nights as the company picks up)
6pm-6am

Pay is £6.00 p/h + tips + Diesel allowance

£144 min per weekend + £20 Diesel = £164 per weekend + tips. Current drivers take home average £180-£200 a weekend.

Take home for the weekend

Requirements
1) Must have own car (Small hatch back Focus size or bigger)
2) Own Sat Nav & good working knowledge on how to use it
3) Own Handsfree
4) Preferably be on Vodaphone as excellent reception on phone
5) Need a smart phone to receive orders via emails

If you fancy earning extra cash, tax free if its a second job on the run up to Christmas, have a general knowledge of London and can operate a Sat Nav then this is the job for you. As there is less traffic on the roads at night, its quicker to get around,.

I've decided to post on here, to give the role to a fellow PH as opposed to a random stranger.

Most importantly you need to be quick, please message me on PH stating why you think you'll be suitable.

Cheers

Wayne

£6.08 is minimum wage, but you keep the tips, 3/5 tip, I have regulars who tip £10 a delivery, thats only because they are drunk, happy and loaded smile But seriously, if I get a really good driver on board I'm happy to pay £6.50 an hr. Remember if its a 2nd income its tax free smile

Just had a quick read up, sorry my mistake all income is taxable frown

The position will be self employed so it will be your responsibility to declare your earnings!

You also need to be careful how you handle this and Employers NI or you could be landed with a large bill retrospectively.

Just saying they are self employed is not enough.

Unfortunately the ridiculous red tape and hoops of running a small business.

I'd do it, however I drive an Elise and it's my only car.

Delivery would be speedy though - moreover they'd hear it arriving. wink

The car is 106.9dB on full chat.

I am sure that although they are self employed you are still responsible for stopping 20%. I may be wrong and wait to be corrected by someone more intelligent than me.

Wow, sorry to be a drag but that is a terrible amount of money to offer. It's a nats fart away from being minimum wage, yet you have to work from 6pm to 6am, supply and maintain your own car and supply the correct ancillary equipment all in the hope some drunk guy MAY tip you a tenner to make it worth while....frown

I could think of many other ways to make more for less.

Sorry just my opinion, happy to be shot down too

smile

I hear what your saying Mr Roper, when I put an advert on Gumtree I would get over 100 enqueries + So there is no shortage of people looking for extra cash.

I have researched & other delivery companies pay min wage or just above to do delivery driving work. It's not exactly hard work, lots of short drops 3-5 miles radius. So wear & tear will be minimal. Drivers average 30-40 miles a night. 10-15 deliveries. So it's not like multi drop like courier work, where you'll be doing 60 drops in a day.

This job is suited to some one looking for extra cash on the weekend to supplement a full time job.

I will throw the question back to you, as a company owner, much would u pay some one to work those times, basically following a Sat Nav & flyering?

A couple of links OP.

Firstly;

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/employment-status/index.htm...

And;

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/calcs/esi.htm

I asked the same question a couple of years ago. I was self employed at the time and had a company ask me to do regular work for them on a 'self employed' basis. Having asked a few questions and done my research, it seemed that it would be very difficult to get away with.

In addition, if the drivers are deemed to be employed, then you,as an employer must also consider the Working and Night Time Regulatios;

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/W...

Not being a stick in the mud as I salute you for having the balls. My experience of self employment was incredibly satisfying. BUT be carefull, I am still paying )financially) for a couple of assumptions I made back then. I can't blame HMRC as I didn't do my research correctly.

I would also be carefull about using the phrase 'Minimum Wage' or any variants thereof. To me this indicates you are abiding by Minimum Wage legislation and are by default, considering your workers 'employed'. Perhaps the 'equvalent of' XYZ hourly rate or just a fixed amount for the hours worked? As far as the rates you are offering, too low for that type of work, especially at night and location. I note you have already made the comment about customer service going down hill, you pay peanuts and get monkeys. For me? 12 hour night shift supplying everything? £175 a night and I would keep the tips.

Keep your staff happy (pay them decently from the start) and they will keep the customer happy.If the staff are dependant on tips to make it even half worthwhile, customer service suffers because they get annoyed with those that don't tip.

Next week, I will be starting a delivery driving position for a few months that pays just under £500 for a 4 day week on PAYE. Everything supplied, van, nav,fuel,holiday pay etc. Fairly no brain stuff, for sure but I feel like dropping out for a bit and the bills have to be paid. However, it allows me to persue some other more lucrative ideas I have and I am assured, due to the customer base (fairly wealthy/minted West London) I can expect to add £200 to that in tips. If it doesn't, well for a 4 day week,even for just the basic, that's not too bad.And I can tell you, the customers will LOVE me. My personal goal is to double the basic with tips, purely from good service....but I won't be asking for it.

Yes, you are starting a business and need to keep costs to a minimum but my guess is that service/customer experience/reliabilty and punctuality will be the make or break of the business? Yes tips 'may' be involved but are no way guaranteed. You say an average of £180-£200 per weekend? Well, an alternative is to offer a top up bonus perhaps along the lines of £80 per night but we will make up the difference so that you always take home £100, if the tips are light that night? As mentioned though, that would still be a low starting point for me.

And are your drivers aware of insurance requirements for 'driving in the course of business?' Although admittedly, that would be hard one to police, as it is PH, we all know the opinion of unisured drivers!But it all adds up to additional expense for the driver.

Anyway, enough ramblings from me and best wishes and all success for the business!
