MOT in/around Edinburgh?
Discussion
I have 2 cars which will both very shortly need tested, and the station I've used for the last 20 or so years is no longer
.
So, does anyone have any recommendations for friendly MOT testing stations in the Edinburgh area?
I'm not looking for anything dodgy, just a fair go without the station trying to generate some remedial work. Should there be a failure then any remedial work will not be going to the testing station.

I've used the City of Edinburgh Council Fleet Services depot down at Gorgie for MOTs a few times - legally they have to be open to the public, but their main work is obviously in maintaining and MOTing council vehicles. As they don't fix public motors, they don't have any interest in finding borderline things wrong to fail them on in the hope of making the real money in repairs.
Downside is that you pay the government set rate (currently £54.85) for your MOT, but I've generally found this to be cheaper in the long run. Other advantage over the afore-mentioned is that they're open 24 hours (I once called them around 8pm to arrange a full retest; an hour later I was chatting to the mechanic as it was getting done, and by 9:30pm I had a fresh MOT). Oh, and you might get to watch a mahoosive bin lorry getting brake-checked on the rollers while you're there!

Thanks for the suggestions folks, greatly appreciated.
Against my better judgement I ended up taking both cars for their MOT at...... Kwik Fit
I did this because I amtight frugal, and found a discount code (CAPKF9800) which allows you to book a test online for £25. I figured that 2 tests for the price of one was worth a punt.
The S70R passed no problem, with various spurious advisories that I shall ignore - corrosion on coil springs, that sort of guff.
The V70 failed on a couple of things; osf ball joint & track rod end, nsr handbrake, ns headlight too low. I accept the suspension parts were worn, and these were replaced. The headlight aim was no different from one side to the other, and (as far as I was concerned) the handbrake was fine.
Long story short, I had a bit of a disagreement about the handbrake efficiency which ended up with me adjusting it right up and even then it only passed. It feels absolutely fine to me, but perhaps it is not quite right. They did not like me asking when the brake rollers were calibrated
What seemed to piss them off was that the guy who did the retest (who did not do the original test) wanted to fail it on the nsf balljoint (it failed on the osf, nsf was an advisory), and AFAIK thats a no-no as only the failed items can be inspected.
So, would I go back??
For £25, yes I probably would, but I'm really not sold on the KF experience in general.

Time to drag this thread up again.
I recently acquired another car, an MOT failure that needed some basic work.
I'm just back from getting it tested at Roseburn Garage as advised by 2 or 3 of you.
I'll certainly go back, they were very helpful and patient and I even got a cup of tea
They did say that a PH'er had promised to drop in a tin of biscuits but never delivered - going by the description (sandrail!) it sounds like Elliot. Get in there with the biccies man!
