...something like this happens in the UK?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2051679/Yu...

We all know about the foreign exchange student who was beaten and mugged during the "riots" earlier in the year and how it was filmed by various people with camera phones. These people then decided to post their videos on Youtube and several tried to sell the story to the press rather than help the kid out in the first place or report it to the Police. In my opinion that makes them as bad as the guy who did the actual mugging, trying to profit either finacially or (in Youtube hits are the Yardstick of popularity) by making a name for themselves through the suffering of others makes them little more than the scum they chose to cowardly film instead of trying to stop.

So here we have a two year old girl who got away from her mum and was hit by two van. Neither of the drivers stopped and nobody tried to stop them or help. This may have been due to shock in some cases but more likely people don't give a toss anymore. There are quite a few threads on here about drivers driving off after hitting cyclists and the hit and driver who was caught by a Youtube vidulantee (another I'll post it on Youtube to promote my business before I report it to the Police censored ). It's only a matter of time before something as tragic as Yue Yue happens here and you'll hear about it on Youtube first. frown

What do you guys think?

It was saddening to learn this morning that she had succumbed to her injuries. The video is shocking; I cannot believe that people actually went out of their way to walk/cycle around her. I would like to think that it would be a while until this country gets that bad, but as you've pointed out some recent events and stories would suggest it would not be a massive surprise if a similar story happened here.

It makes me wonder if the body was recognisable as such, or just a pile of rags or clothes etc?

Sorry for the digression to the main point, but this is just wrong. There was one film, recorded by one person.

It was sickening to see him lying there so helpless, then for these people to come along and mug him in that state. I wanted to go down and help but I was terrified that I would get beaten up as well.

Oversight on my part there I'm affraid. UK Riots search on Youtube gives you over 10,000 results. I was refering to all of those.

One person may well have said he was too affraid to do anything but the thirty or so other people there were either taking part or simply not bothered. rolleyes

Mixture of fear, opression and bystander effect within the country I believe. Terrible that someone could walk past and do nothing, it goes against human nature.

There was a high profile case in China a few months ago, where someone stopped to held a lady who was being mugged, got accused of the crime himself and found guilty even though he was being a good samaritan.

A lot of the witnesses to the girl being ran over mentioned this case as a reason why they didn't help.

Funny how the Daily Mail doesn't mention it eh? rolleyes

It's China.

There's 1.3 Billion of them and life is cheap. Baby girls get aborted or left outside to die in a lot of cases.

It's truly different there.
