Magistrates are no longer required to display common sense!
not making it up! That is what is says - and I checked the date! Yup! June 19th and not April 1st!
Who says so? hahahaha! Government officials - of course!
Why? "This quality has dominated British Law for centuries and is too subjective for a multicultural society!"
Ach! You cannot make it up! The report by Matthew Hickley - the Home Affair Journalist is on page 13 of today's Mail!
It says "According to official guidelines - JPs no longer have to display common sense to selecting committee!"
Never have guessed from recent stories already posted here
This decision has been made by ... Lord Falconer, The Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Constitutional Affairs!
Apparently JPs are supposed to show:
good character
understanding and communication (ie -- political correctness
social awareness (ie political correctness)
maturity and sound temperament (ie - poilitical correctness)
sound judgement (ie - political correctness)
commitment and reliability (ie - political correctness)
Until now - "sound judgement" meant "looking for evidence of common sense, ability to think logically, and setting aside of prejudice"
Not any more! "Common sense" is too subjective and means different things to people of different backgrounds"
(er - "common" means "belonging to or shared by all" - nicht?)
Ach - but common sense - and the sentencing guidelines are incompatible - aren't they?
According to the "Mail" - Falconer has produced a 300 page book of guidelines for recruiting JPs.
And according to this - JPs and judges are not allowed to use following terms:
1. Mental illness
2. Asylum seeker (Aha!)
3. Postman (sexist term)
As these can "cause offence"
4. Asian (allowed as "term of convenience"
And the best bit....
"Women are disadvantaged!"
sexist
claptrap! How
sexist is that
comment!
Apparently - guys - we girlies are likely to be highly offended if JP, CPS or defence refer to us as "she".
From now on - the one person in the dock has to be referred to as "they"
UM - THEY is PLURAL!
Streaky is likely to blow a fuse over this - and as foreigner - this is likely to blow my mind!
Who needs my pills?
Every day in every way - it gets better and better!
You simply cannot make it up!

Sorry, just popped out to 8&Q for extra fuse-wire!
I read the article this morning and had to have a long lie down while my BP returned from 210/190!
It doesn't surprise me at all. Many magistrates and some judges (or is that the other way around?) have repeatedly demonstrated that there's nothing common about sense.
Pshaw!
