I have always found these watches quite interesting (without knowing much about them or the brand it must be said), and since I was passing by an authorised dealer who had quite a bit of stock while on holiday this summer I got an opportunity to have a closer look and try on some of the models I like, mainly the Conquistador King Cortez Chrono (yellow/pink gold).

Looking at pictures of the watch at times I think it looks stunning and quite unline anything else, other times I tend to think it looks a bit absurd, and as odd as it might sound from a distance quite like a cheap fashion watch.

Having the watch on your wrist though, it looks amazing, has a great presence and quality wise is superb.

So along similar lines as the Breitling thread- what is the general consensus on Franck Muller, the brand, image, quality, desirability?

New they are obviously very expensive with the model I mentioned costing around 24k for the larger 44mm model, used around 13k-15k- how much of that would be recovered if the watch had to be sold? Maybe not much as the watch is certainly an aquired taste?

Any opinions from anyone who owns or has owned any of their watches would be appreciated. It's not a watch I will be buying soon as I have decided on a rolex day-date 18ct yellow gold as an alternative to my sub, but it is something I would consider in the future.

There are 2 I like - the Master Banker in rose gold and the Crazy Hours (if available in a "non-playschool" colour scheme).

Never seriously looked into buying either though due to a suspicion that they wouldn't really get worn too often.

I had a King Conquistador Chrono with diamonds and loved it.A friend of mine has a Casablanca Diamond special Edition too.
They are fantastic pieces of work, the craftmanship is superb, but not many people know the Brand.I sold mine for a profit, and haven`t been in a position to replace it.Sometimes wish i never sold it,but same goes for my Tag Monaco Steve Mcqueen.
Don`t miss any Rolex though....

I have had 2 casablancas,a long island retograde seconds,a master banker for a week,a 7850 chrono and at the moment a master square in rose gold,so I suppose I am a fan.
Have a look on Blowers site most of mine end up part ex there, all except the chrono gave no trouble mechanically and all were well recieved by friends and aquaintances.
Under no circumstances pay full price fairly large discounts are out there, and secondhand there are great savings even on that.
When I bought my Long Island half price secondhand I organised a personal tour of Watchland which was very impressive and the stuff I saw being made was beautiful.Size does matter and big is better with these at the moment, but that King Cortez is a big watch to live with, and a couple of years ago I was offered one in stainless steel with two straps(an ex footballers)for £5500.
Franck Mullers are not everyones cup of tea but once you have one you will be hooked.

Ive got a King Conquistador Cortez Chrono, with full diamond set and a do like it a lot.I dont wear it very often and it always attracts a lot of attention when its worn(it has around 350 diamonds on the case so sparkles a bit),but with that comes the problem that someone may try to take it from me if I wear it in a less than upmarket area,or I lose or damage it when Im out and have had a bit too much Armand De Brignac!

When I bought it I was torn between it and the non Cortez King Conquistador Chrono(again with full diamond set),and sometimes think I would have liked the non Cortez better(mine seems a bit too 'square' sometimes.

I think Franck Muller have a good image overall and most people who ask about the watch know they are an expensive brand.I have Rolex and Panerai watches as well but the FM is the most 'bling' watch I own.

A King Quistador Cortez Chrono full diamond?

That sound like one seriously impressive watch, must be trully stunning. The more modest rose gold version I tried on was impressive enough! Would you mind posting a picture of the watch- would love to have a look at a non stock photo if possible?

I take your point about the size issue, the 'king' version at 44mm x 44mm is quite square, the non king size is 41mm, for me the larger watch looks marginaly better as it is not an every day watch by any means, and I think this type of design does lend itself better to a larger watch.

I'd only be looking at a used but mint watch, just not sure if a price tag of 12k-13k can be justified for this type of watch, which is very much an aquired taste so it's hard to predict what it would be worth in years to come, and that would matter to me given the outlay.

I'll take a picture next time I get it out of the sock drawer wink To be honest I took a couple of pictures of it which were on my old computer but it doesnt look anywhere near as good on a picture as in the flesh-the camera has difficulty conveying the sparkling effect of the diamonds.

Do they make their own movements?

Style is a bit odd, but hard to fault the horology.

I am NOT a fan...
Big money watches which IMO lack the style/gravitas that they SHOULD have - and that's me being nice...

Everyone should have a Crazy Hours at some point in their life.

We're here for a fun time, not a long time. . .

I have a Crazy Hours, in blue. Simply stunning in every way.

EDIT - Terrible to have on a bad night out though. Nearly as bad as taking a Phantom out clubbing.

Fabulous watches, some of them are firmly placed amongst my favourites. They do of course do more than a few garish ones, some I like, some I don't.

I've been after one for a while, but there's a few others on the 'maybe' list that might have to come first.

Because if you've had a few too many, telling the time becomes a chore. Also, if someone looks at your watch to tell the time, it messes them about too.

The Phantom is terrible in a nightclub, because nightclubs are very dark - you can finish that one off! biggrin
