Um...it was about Americans?
What he means by Americanised was the portrayal of everyone else as being the enemy or idiots, particularly the British team of mercenaries/SAS in the desert. Trained and well equiped but it's an American bomb disposal team who win the day whilst the Brits hide behind rocks, yee-ha Team America.Boring film as well.
I got the impression it won awards because it portrayed the US soldiers as brave but stupid/wrong, the Arabs as violent but far cleverer, and any other prejudice bound to appeal to a nice liberal Oscars jury.
Also, like many - I hate to say - fims by female directors, it didn't really seem to have a start, middle and end. It just sort of stopped.

Am very impressed (though the sniping scene was a bit dodgy)
ths^^^^^, I know it's just a film, but for one trying to be "real" and "true" how did the insurgents manage 2 clean single shot kills from about 800m, on a windy day, when the US guys (with a Barret M107 !!) couldn't manage to return fire accurately ??Also, why did all the bombers, clearly waiting with their fingers on the button as the IED defuser walked up to the bomb do just that and wait?? Surely, the longer you leave it, the more chance he's going to diffuse it, so just set it off when he gets there????
Still, good film i thought, makes a change to see something that isn't going 1000mph all the time!
(yup, i'm getting old ;-)
