This is my second how do I value this thread after a prelude! My mum has a 1989 325i Cabrio in red with cream leather with 12,000 miles from new. Trading it in for a new 3 series convertible and offered £500. It has full BMWSH and garaged throughout, gotta be worth than that?

I'd say it is worth more, much much more, in fact depending on condition they might even possibly sell it on as BMW approved used.

It's pretty much as new. She trundles round in a Roomster and it only went out on sunny days!

As V8Wagon said, any pictures? You would probably be best selling it privately. I'm sure you can get a true valuation on here.

It seems good examples of the whole E30 cab range fetch good money. With 12k on the clock you should get a pretty good price

I would keep it rather than trading in and advertise in a classic mag such as Practical Classics. I sold a 1989 325i Convertible about 5 years ago for £3k and reckon I could have got more, and that they're worth more now. I'd give you £500 for it tomorrow!!

No way will a 22 year old car be "approved used"!

It's just an old car in decent condition.

You would be surprised with some of the stuff they have had on there as "approved used"

They currently have an 02 reg M5 on there for £24k

Absolutely!! OP, sell it yourself - will achieve a price many times over what said dealership has offered.

If the condition matches the mileage I wouldn't be surprised to see the car being advertised at £10K, maybe more, at a specialist dealer.

Mmmmm. Think I might have to stop her in the morning. Thought the nice garage were taking the car off her hands! Anyone want a 335i Convertible in 22 years with low mileage let me know!

If the car is in similar condition as the examples which Marf posted links to, then £10K I think would certainly be possible. They are sought after cars and with that mileage, even more so. Even if the car is in very poor condition it going to be worth way more than £500. Post some pictures if you can.

Most definitely sounds like your local friendly dealer might just be taking your dear old mum for a mug.

As a bit of an update. It sold for quite a bit more in the end. £16k! So good to ask

PH has some use then.
Result.
Does put some in the trade in rather a bad light though.
Then, they should by now appreciate that the internet is providing much more price transparency across all sectors.
