is it really this slidey ?
Discussion
i have owned a 400 chimp, a 4.5 cerb and a 500 griff. i have just however taken on a mk1 4.0 tuscan and it would seem a car that more than any is trying to kill me. all the others seemed pretty much planted and certainly in the dry would behave unless really provoked. but this is nuts.
i have the wheel spacers on the front to calm the steering and although its a quicker rack than b4 its really not that. the rear shocks are new and althought the tyres are not, they are legal ! but seriously ... if this is the car in the dry then it will be undrivable in the wet. many junctions are being exited in a fishy wiggly way and a roundabout yesterday was distinctly sideways for a sec... in the dry... without trying...
is there a mod that i need ?.. ive seen some with spacers all round ?... does nitrons/gaz golds etc make that much difference ? is this just the way it is ? i no its fun now and again but this feels like im driving on ice sometimes ! any suggestions ?

Mine sticks to the road like glue. Have to really force it to slide.... so seems like there is something wrong with your setup!? Could be just as simple as a tyre things... or maybe really bad geometry settings. I would really check the geometry.. and the shocks-setup. Don't set them to hard...... and check the tyre pressure.
What tyres are you using anyway? There is a huge difference in grip depending on what brand or type you use...
Oh.... and check all the the bushings... if they are worn out, the geometry changes while driving, what could lead to such slidey behaviour....

I don't think its geometry. No ride height changes have been made and there is no tramling etc. It is no more twitchy on a straight than any other car with such quick steering. It's just that rear end tbh. I can feel how close it is to letting go.
Does rear spacers change anything other than the track width ? I do think the car would look nicer if the rears sat out further in the arch.

Hello Allan ! U Came and looked at my old cerb ! The one loz bought and recently sold. My tyres are toyos and ill check pressure. What shud they b ?
My shocks are not particularly aggresive either.
Mine is new aluminium. Although the possibility of a magnetic problem is a nice idea !
I'm gonna try tyres first then check geometry. But may go with the wider 255 this time. The book suggests 245 35 and I have 245 40. That extra 5 % would cause this would it ?

Hi, thought I recognised the name, I recommended your old Cerb to him, and was tempted when it came up for sale again. I love my tuscan, it's got toyos at 22psi, and standard shocks, spacers, and can't complain. Still occassionaly twitchy, but keeps you on your toes and reminds you of what's under your right foot. Hope you get it sorted. My shocks are not particularly aggresive either.

Ok I thinks its resolved. I had a slow puncture nsr repaired the other day and it was set at 22. The original osr was set at.... 32 !! I think this may of made a difference. I went for a hoon and whilst I could provoke a slide it wasn't just all over and quite controlled. Reminds me y I sold the 911... Those things don't let go for ever but that really makes it spoke boring doesn't it ?
Rear Spacers?? The spacers 3mm go on the front.
Sounds to me like either Geo especially with new shocks, tyres, or maybe mis matched shocks/springs or possibly worn bushes.
Mine is a MK1 on standard shocks running Pirelli Pzero's and its nowhere near as bad as you describe, it only does fishtailing if I floor it in a low gear.

Question about rear spacers is only because iv seen them advertised fitted to other cars and to be honest I thought the rears would look better. Shocks r standard and spacers r on front only toyo tyres now at 22 psi and now all good. Cheers
22psi is too low IMO especially with Toyo's that have soft side walls. I run my Pirellis at 26psi on the rear. I found 24psi gave too much movement.I ran Toyos on my G33 at 20 psi all round (car wighs 850kgs and was 50/50 weight distribution) on hill climbs and sprints I upped the pressure to 24/26 depending in ambient temps and on one circuit it was best at 28psi.
The Tuscan is easily half as heavy again so 22 really does seem low. For a possible easy solution its well worth trying higher pressures than you are running, if it doesnt work you can then go back to 22psi and get your credit card and vaseline out and take it to a pro.
Where are you based? Neil Garner is brilliant with geo as are Gugliami Motorsport.
