What's your favourite 911?
Discussion
Some people love them, some people hate them but I've always wanted to own a Porsche 911. Whereas I would never be able to afford to run an Aston Martin, Ferrari or Lamborghini even if I save up the money to buy one, a 911 has always been a realistic dream and robust enough to drive everyday. They don't date as quickly as the latest supercar and seem like they would be awesome on track. On a recent trip to the Nurburgring, every other car that overtook me was a 911. Everything else looked like it was driving on the edge but the 911s looked so stable and unruffled like they were just cruising! Unfortunately I have yet to drive one, let alone own one! The next obstacle would be which one to choose and there doesn't seem to be such a thing as a cheap 911 and the price differential between a 30 year old and 3 year old 911 is really not that huge.
So what would your choice be (whether you've driven one or not): Air-cooled or water-cooled? RWD or 4WD? Normally-aspirated or turbo? Manual or PDK? Coupe or convertible?
For me, the early ones (1960s and 1970s) look great but not enough power and potentially too rustprone. The '73 2.7 RS is supposed to be something really special but genuine ones are so rare and expensive that it's more of a collectors piece in my opinion. I'm not so keen on the 964 and 996 looks-wise (apart from the GT3) and I prefer normally-aspirated, manual gearbox and a coupe.
So that leaves me with a:
1980s 3.2 Carrera - I had an Athena poster of a Guards red 3.2 Carrera with black Fuchs wheels on my bedroom wall as a kid (a proper 80s icon)
993 Carrera - has the distinction of being the last air-cooled 911 and love the clean looks
997 Carrera S/GT3 - All the modern refinements but still has that classic 911 look
I also think the 997 GT2 RS looks great, especially in red but I don't think I'm a skilled enough driver to drive one without killing myself!
So what's your favourite 911 and why?

Would I part with what they ask for them? No way, I'd rather buy an E-type and have change for other cars. I've been there and done that enough with Porsche to not be particularly excited about them but I'd love to own both the 2.7 RS and a 924 Carrera GT.
