This Saturday I had arranged to go down to Gloucester to help out a music video production company who wanted a Nissan GTR in a video they were shooting for a new artist on a budget, I thought it would be an interesting day out and they agreed to pay me £150 which would more than cover my fuel. Much to my delight the shoot seemed to involve some story or other involving a beautiful young lady whom was wearing next to nothing, the day was certainly off to a good start. Then things took a turn for the worst, the video was destined for Arab countries and thus the record company guy insisted the young lady covered up to the point where she was wearing jeans and a coat LOL!!

Anyway at this point I went off to Gloucester with the wife for a bit of shopping, the taxi cost me £90, the UGG boots I bought for er indoors cost me £230, and dr Drey earphones for my son were £170 our lunch and refreshments were another £50

On our return to the shoot location I was told the car shots had been completed and I could go, great I thought back home for 7:00 this is where the weekend gets expensive.....

On starting the car I was greeted with a warning light telling me my tyre pressure was low, 18 psi in the drives side rear, we drove all the way back without any further loss of pressure. This morning I went to kwik fit Loughborough to get my tyres topped up which they did for free nice chaps. On the way back I had my window down and noticed a clicking sound as I drove, I knew what this would be and on my arrival home I found a bloody great screw in my tyre frown

I have never had a puncture before so this was bloody annoying, with 6000 miles out of the set and probably a good 3000 left in them, this was very annoying, repairs don't seem to be the done thing on run flats so now I needed to decide on whether to go for the oem dunlops at £2000 a set or the alternative Bridgestones at around £1400 either way a bloody expensive trip frown

Then....

My son informs me that the wife's rear drivers side tyre is flat, I thought he was winding me up, but no there it is another bloody screw, this time of the cross head variety in exactly the same place as the GTR. A phone call to Porsche assistance and a very pleasant rac man turned up and refilled the tyre, this got me to kwik fit, whom managed to repair the tyre thank god!

They were already quoting me on some winter tyres for my Audi and are now also quoting me on a set for the gtr we are on first name terms smile

Jeez a weekend I'd like to forget, and one my bank balance will be remembering for a couple of months!

yikesyikesyikes
£500/tyre. sheesh.

Unlucky mate,
I'm guessing you have to keep the treadwear identical to avoid winding the diffs up?

I've had three nails in 88k in the skoda. Not too fussed about that being a company car.
It was a bit irritating when I got a nail in each of the rear tyres of my MR2 withing a week of getting it.

So you drove home on an under inflated tyre instead of blowing it up at a service station?

You then have kwik fit inflate it near home.

You then have porsche assistance blow another tyre up for you?

May I suggest a foot pump and to also MTFU tongue out

Am I right in saying they would be nitrogen filled hence why a 30 pence air pump would be no good?

They may well be filled with nitrogen but a little normal air would cause no damage to the tyre. Refilling with nitrogen could be done once the journey home is completed on safely inflated tyres.

The price of tyres is just relative to the price of the car surely - you buy an expensive car, you have expensive running costs.

If you can spend £90 on a taxi, £230 on some horrific boots, and £170 on some headphones, I can't imagine money is tight? It appears you have 3 cars anyway so you've got a spare haven't you.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is, to get sympathy? Perhaps I seem harsh but if everyone who got a puncture posted a thread about it the forum may get a little busy.

The stupidity of design of many modern cars doesn't cease to amaze me. Isn't that absolutely bonkers that you have to replace a tyre for £500 just because it's got a nail in it??? OP - Why don't you replace it with normal tyres if you have to spend the money anyway? I know that Nissan says that the GTR is optimized for Runflats but FFS, I'd rather lose one second of the track time than spending £500 minimum everytime I have a puncture!!!

I believe the two options are Dunlop sourced through a Nissan hpc or Bridgestones, I will be going for the latter as previously mentioned as they are more reasonably priced hothead of which are run flats.

My apologies yellowbentines for posting my inane dribble in General Gassing, and no I'm not looking for sympathy either just to clear that up, fk me this place is like pulling teeth at times!

Like I said, sorry if my reply seems harsh. I'm just grateful I don't have £100k+ worth of cars, £500+ afternoons out - those damn punctures ruin everything wink
