I had a new clutch fitted on Friday, and after doing 50 miles or so the car has developed an intermittent "Warning EFI Fault" on the LCD screen. First time I've ever seen an error message since owning the car and I'm guessing the garage hasn't put something back together properly.

Found various topics about this and most seem to be down to one of the sensors not being attached properly. If I were to remove the bonnet, is there anything obvious I could check before taking the car back?

Would prefer to get this sorted myself rather than return the car as it's a bit of a pain to get over there and they'll probably keep it all week.

Cheers

Just a guess but I had the "EFI" fault caused by a lambda sensor (or wiring). I think they might have removed the exhaust to get at the clutch/gearbox so maybe they unplugged them? The wires plug in near the exhaust manifolds under the bonnet.

Have circled where they plug in in green (they're the round yellow-ish things on early Tuscans at least)...

Break and re-make the connector on the air box.

Hi Guys

Just got the bonnet off and found that the pipe that goes from the airbox to the top of the oil resevoir was not connected from the oil resevoir side.

Could this have caused the EFI fault? Is it important and could it have done any damage to the engine? Other than the EFI fault which doesn't appear until the engine warmed up, it seems to run fine.

Ok, taken it for a spin with the pipe attached and the fault is now on the display permanently!!!

Really hope the garage didn't pull the pipe off because it was the only way they could get it to run without the EFI Fault appearing (little did they realise it did appear but only once warmed up enough). Really pissed off if that is the case and whilst I spent a fortune with them fitting a new clutch, I don't want to take it back to them to sort it out if this is how they work.

I have found another post with a similar problem where it seems the airbox wasn't fitted correctly. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Sigh.

Further digging it seems the oil breather pipe isn't actually required, however leaving the pipe dangling freely from the air filter isn't the way to do it!

You can only clear it through the software now.

Oh right. Every so often, just for a split second it will go away though.

Also, seeing how you dont actually need the breather pipe, I think there might be a problem elsewhere.

Try the crank sensor. Could have been knocked whilst the gearbox was out. It's located at the back on the engine on top of the bellhousing. Airbox has to come out to check it though, but that's pretty simple to do.

Mine did this - reset it using software, then narrowed it down to a temp sensor fault.

Turns out it was an air sensor fault due to the wire being broken at the little plug.

All sorted now and back to normal smile

Cheers guys.

Hi cockey,
Well done for letting everyone know what the fault was in the end wink So many posts never get what the outcome was in the end that fixed the problem..
