Hi - I have a 2005 ML320 cdi and the other day I noticed the display warning light on my dash showing that the left dim light had gone, this was closely followed by the right.

I checked the bulbs & (all) the fuses and they were fine - a AA mechanic told me it is most likely to be the SAM unit

Does anyone experienced this - all the other electronics work (well the wiper sometimes gets stuck/freezes but then continues)

Would really appreciate anyone's thoughts or comments

Thanks

Yes, I experienced the same on my 2006 C Class when they were doing the handover to me - it was a brand new car!

Obviously it was covered by warranty and they replaced the SAM and it was fine, didn't happen again.

I recently had a tailgate lock failure which required both the lock mechanism and the rear SAM unit to be replaced. These units centralise the signals sent to various devices so they can go and cause issues. Only way is get it checked by someone with the STAR diagnostics.

I think there is a rear SAM update to cure this worth getting it checked before you jump in

I've not long since had a front SAM fail on my R230 - it was causing a "Service Brake - Visit Workshop" warning.
