The TuscanR pictured on this website since Sunday night makes the front page of Autocar this week... A mighty 500bhp MGF that spit flames also feature in this issue.

Yep, got the latest issue in the post this morning. A four page article on the R that was at "at home" over the weekend. That couldnt be a PR co-incidence could it

Still, as usual it is a fair article from Autocar. They werent allowed to drive it and it has only the 4.0 390BHP engine so not quite the full monty yet. However, comments such as a FULLY SEQUENTIAL gearbox are interesting - not that SMG from BMW, but a full 6 speed sequential box that you crash up and down..... Nice.

Take a read, worth a scan. Should be good once they have finalised it. Oh, and final comments from Autocar is that it should be a winner - but then again we expected that from them.

Cheers,

Paul

not sure what you mean, also have it on good authority that Tuscan S6 TVR was spotted for about 4 hours at BMW GB last week!

To quote Autocar (C) Autocar 2002

"I know the BMW M3 SMG is supposed to have one of these transsmissions, but in practice its nothing like a BTCC cars gearbox: mainly because there are only two pedals. The Tuscan Rs sequential gearbox will have three pedals and, according to TVR, will change just like a competition car. There wont be paddles either: instead youll just bang the lever back towards you to shift up and away to shift down. Youll need to use the clutch on the way down to help lengthen the life of the gearbox, but not on the way up - apart from when you pull away in first gear. All of which sounds exceedingly BTCC to me."

Paul

SMG....Sequential...Manual ...Gearbox
As I understand it, the SMG is a convential manual gearbox that is hydraulically actuated and presented to the driver as sequential inasmuch as they use a lever to go up and down the gears sequentially. The gearbox is still physically capable of going from any one gear to any other, so is not actually a sequential gearbox.

On the other hand, a true sequential gearbox is the type used on bikes, BTCC cars, etc. where you mechanically go through the gears sequentially.

nope it is a up / down sequential box

i think the main difference is it has paddleshifts and uses hydraulics to swap gears. But hey, if this is good enough for F1 who is to criticise!

Sounds like the TVR one is san hydraulics so you need to use the clutch on downshifts and when moving off!

I dont know though - TVR to make their own gearboxes. Lets hope they do the development work so that they are reliable as the old Borg Warner ones (which arent perfect, but at least fairly cheap to replace / fix).

I would hate to have the whole SP6 engine issue with gearboxes instead.....

Apparently there's a development box running in one of the factory's Cerberas.
