Depends, if you just want to have some fun then I would guess they're all pretty decent but I will point out that the deuce e needs the electronics adding so will work out a lot dearer. If you're really going to have a go at racing then the lazer zx5, madrat and madmonkey would be the best of those listed, but bear in mind if you get the bug to race you will probably end up replacing most of the electronics anyway, for the extra money one of these would possibly be a better bet http://www.modelsport.co.uk/associated-rc10b4.1-br...

I highly recommend racing, for me just driving around for fun soon gets boring. I've been racing for years now, I'm not particularly good at it but there's some good banter in the pits, weekend events or even foreign events if you want to take it that far.

If you are considering racing then have a look at http://www.brca.org/?q=clubs for your local club. Before you buy anything I would pay a visit to them and see what they are running so that you can buy the same class and join in. Everyone is very friendly in RC circles so feel free to ask questions when you are there.

From the list of cars you've posted up the mad monkey is not a bad shout. Ansmann have recently signed a few high profile drivers to help develop the cars.

This, for an out of the box car it's well worth the extra few quid. And with a few extra bits you'll soon have it how you want reliably.

I have the factory team version running a similar Reedy brushless system and its great fun, so much so that i'm considering retiring my 8th scale nitro car to the attic

Just noticed you are based in Manchester. Closest clubs to you are Bury or Southport. There is also a big series held at Chadderton through the winter

Bungleaio & wacattack; thanks, yes Manchester mainly but spend a lot of time down southa round London so either is good. Will definetely check out the clubs mentioned and try to get up to speed: I really don't want to race without having got to grips with it all. One ide I had was to go to some local BMX dirt tracks and use them as an RC track (while there's no bikes on there of course). Is this a silly idea? I suppose typical RC tracks aren't that big or wide.

You'd be surprised how big some of the outdoor tracks are. Even the indoor ones at Chadderton and Worksop are a pretty decent size. Going to a bmx track isn't a bad idea, however there aren't any tracks in this country of that type of surface any more. The uk tracks are predominantly astro or grass. Just get yourself to a club meeting, the locals should be more than happy to help out
