Competition Insurance?
Discussion
Each to their own - self insure is generally the way in my experience
but others will speak for themselves. I got a quote for £400 a race meet recently but it really does depend on the amount of cover you require. If you're buying a drive then the "you bend it you mend it" clause normally applies but again, it depends on the arrangement with the owner. Remember that an off with damage that wasn't your fault still puts you in the frame to make it good yourself

There are quite a few specialist insurers who will cover cars on-track but the premiums and the excesses are high. If it's just for your hobby, rather than running a professional team, you're probably better off just looking at cover against theft and for race trucks and trailers. A few well-known companies are MIS, Competition Car Insurance, Lockton's and Richard Egger Insurance. FWIW either I, friends of mine or teams I have worked for have had direct dealings with all four, and had claims with all of them except Lockton's, and they've all been ok.

I have a racecar trailer and tool policy with OAMPS special risks. Car and trailer is insured for transit to and from workshops or racing circuit and whilst stored at a circuit.
Cover is for transport, fire and theft £25k cover for car £5k cover for trailer and £5k cover for tools. Annual premium is about £280 per year
