Four grand hooner - what do you reckon?
Discussion
Hi folks,
You know the car ads that say "New Baby Forces Sale"? Well, it happens to the best of us. So I have to get a sensible car, but that doesn't mean I can't have a silly one for the weekends.
So the question is this; what kind of respectable hot hatch with scope for tuning can I pick up for four to five k? I'm a big unit, so Clios/Saxos etc are out of the question. My first thought is an old model Type R or maybe a Megane.
What do you think?

How much tuning do you want to do? VAG cars with the 1.8T unit can cope with silly hp.
Audi S3?

Or a Subaru Impreza, not a hatch but still practical

In truth a hatch is probably better with the kids, as its easier to physically get a push chair in. However, volume wise it is not much different to my old Focus.
I manage to get my twin Mountain Buggy in the boot of my STi.
You'll have a laugh and a simple map and exhaust, and you will fly!

Weekend car and you want a hatch? You know the car ads that say "New Baby Forces Sale"? Well, it happens to the best of us. So I have to get a sensible car, but that doesn't mean I can't have a silly one for the weekends.

Wouldn't a Caterham like be a better bet or something equally fun?

OP, how about a Mitsubishi Galant VR4 (may be a bit old) or Subaru Legacy 3.0R?
How? Thread title says hooner and op mentions:

They then go on and mention a hatch. If the hatch is the "sensible" car and not the weekend one, then I'd say the tread title is wrong and the first part of the op misleading.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
