Evening all.

Having toyed with the idea of an Alfa 147 GTA, I've now ditched the idea for the time and decided to go for a Cooper S.

I've found one with 23500 miles, the Chili pack, upgraded alloys and er that's about it for £7800. It looks good in the pics. However I'm in Kent and the Mini's in Aberdeen. So really need to gauge if its worthwhile before making the trip.

Does this seem a good price? From what I can tell on Autotrader and the ads on here they're all over the place from about £7500 to £11kish.

Not a clue. Look at others with same spec/miles/age and see what they are going for and make your own judgement.

Check it has had the modified timing kit fitted, or else it will most likely be a lemon.

It affects all the BMW/PSA 1.6 turbo engines in the DS3/Cooper S / 207 etc

Do a search, hundreds of pages on forums about it

Would that have been a recall?

Not sure if they ever 'officially' admitted it. Start it up when it is cold (stood overnight) and you be able to tell.

I'm pretty sure it affected most 2007 - 2009 cars (my neighbour has an '11 plate DS3 sport and his is affected as well)

Yikes, you're kidding. What's the sound to look out for? Bag of bolts?

That's very very cheap, there are plenty of r53 (supercharged) Cooper S' for sale for more than that! (incl ours :-()

Be wary the first off the line 07 plates weren't that reliable, our 08 plate r56 cooper s had the timing chain issue, as well as a new clutch and steering rack under warranty....(it had done 8k at the time...)

I think I spotted yours for sale. Is is the one with the GTT upgrade?

Here's the ad, though I've got the price down to £7800.

2007 Mini Cooper S for sale. Excellent condition inside and out, only done 23500k. Silver/Black.

Mot until July 2012, taxed until end Jan 2012.

Just had 2 brand new tyres fitted, chilli pack, TLC pack valid until next year, half leather - upgraded alloys - so much fun to drive.

Looking for £8000 ovno

Can email pictures

Yep that's mine, as I said the R56 looks to be a great price! In terms if the cars the R56 is way more comfortable but not as much fun to drive, you could describe the R53 as "raw" in terms of noise and driver inputs etc
