After driving the Tuscan Mk1 for like 30 minutes, the engine bay starts to emit odors of burned rubber. I can smell it while driving inside the car.... and also outside of the car, when being close to the hood or wheel houses. Tried to find where this could come from... but couldn't see anything special. Maybe this is a known thing?
Besides that, the header get's pretty hot and starts to cook the hood right above. Already ordered some heat-reflecting adhesive... but that does not seem to cause the rubber-smell at all anyway...

Could be that one of the cats is blocked/colapsed and is causing the headers to get to hot. This happened with me and I got de-catted is there ant scorching on the chassis area around the headers.

Unfortunately the steel frame chassis is not protected with ant scorching... so the paint is already gone completely and heavy rust shows in the areas near the cats. Will put Fertan on all these rusty parts this week and add some heat reflecting mats. Hope this will keep the frame from coroding even more!? One lambda recently reported wrong values.... exchange is already ordered. So more fuel is going through one set of cylinders. Hope it did not ruin the Cat yet!? Or could the more fuel also cause the higer heat in a cat then?
Still not sure though, where the smell of burned rubber is coming from....

Tried to take a look at it already.. but it's impossible to see from the upper view. Will try to get under the car to check it out.

Burnt rubber smells usually means a slipping belt, have you looked at the alternator belt or whatever else is in there?

Yes, all the belts looked fine.... But I will take off the hood again today, to recheck everything.

I've not heard of a rubber smell before so can't help on that. This thread is useful for the chassis damage near the cats... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I will spend the whole day now on the car and will check all the suggested things... Hope it's not the "engine out"-thing though! wink
If I can locate the problem, I'll update this post.
