Freelander Auto Gearbox
Discussion
After some help/pointers (I've tried search and it is still thinking about given some answers, but not holding my breath!)
Friend has a Freelander 2.2D with an automatic gearbox.
In her words 'It is completely broken'.
From that it appeasr the car, loses power, shuts down and refuses to move.
Has been towed to the LR dealer who have diagnosed 'Internal Fault in Gearbox' £3,500 to replace. No other investigation.
They have carried out some other attempted fixes which sound like VCU and EGR. (This is all third hand through snotty tissues) These left the car still losing power and finally stopping.
The car is not quite 4 years old and covered 58,000 miles - LRsh but out of warranty.
So, questions.
Any known faults on the gearbox?
Any better options in the indy market for repair/replace?
The dealer has approached Land Rover for a contribution, their reply - get stuffed.
Which I expected as an initial response.

Cheers.
The linked garage is a bit too far away.
Someone on a landrover forum recommended someone a lot closer who does exchange units for £925 and a drive in service for £1500 as long as they have a refurbed unit waiting.
Given the number of postings across various forums about the weak automatic box it is a bit off of Land Rover to blank the issue.
Garage is trying this is teh friend third LR - likely to be the last as well.
