How is it that Britcar can get all of their cars around 105dba yet Brit GT is 118.

We who regularly attend Castle Combe have been left with a void well until Britcar Arrived[thanks guys]
The GT/F3 meeting[and was the highlight of any year] that used to come to combe was lost due to noise issues it attracted huge crowds which is more than a number of the circuits can say thats on the calender at present.

It seems strange to me that with the way the country is at present sponsors and teams would relish the chance race in front of a big crowd NOISE should never be any issue not to come to any circuit if Britcar can get their cars at 105 theres no reason why Brit Gt can't make the same effort

BGT isn't 118! We run 108.

The 458 standard system is already well under 105, so we had no problems when we entered Britcar at Combe and Snet.

I stand corrected i did wonder so theres no reason why the Brit Gt can't come back then thats interesting to know, although i wouldn't be supprised it was more to do with not having garages on the pitlane.

I would suggest that the reason for the lack of BGT at Combe is also due to a number of factors, none of which are insurmountable as a single factor, but the combination of all means it falls into the box of “Just not worth it when there are other more suitable places to go”.

1. Noise – yes a brand new 458 might make the limit, but I would have thought that there are other cars in the field (I’m guessing as SLS for a start) which would struggle to do so without spending a lot of money on an exhaust system and a remap just for that weekend.

2. As a rule F3 and BGT run together, other than overseas meetings and the odd piggy back for F3. If BGT’s were to go to Combe then it would have to be without F3, the technical regs for which are set by the FIA iirc and which require their stamp to approve any deviation from. As such F3 would not be able to run there and the cost for the cuircuit hire and so on starts to fall out of acceptability. Again especially when you factor in things like hospitality and so on.

3. No matter what you say about Britcar not having a problem there have you seen any of the pit action in BGT this year. Granted we haven’t quite had the issues this year as were had at Thruxton last year, but it is a very, very busy place and Combe is just not up to the task as it stands. If there were a major incident I’m fairly sure that 99% of the people who are involved with and understand BGT would easily be able to say “Told you so.” And let the litigation start...

4. Combe is quite a way off the beaten track for most teams.

5. Finally the track itself is a bit of a question. We are talking about in many cases £350k+ cars that race closely. You can have a big one anywhere but at Combe you don’t even need to try. That’s before we even start to consider the worst case scenarios which at Combe are of a significant magnitude higher than almost every other track BGT goes to.

I loved watching the GT’s and F3 there but, as someone who signs on almost every weekend, Combe is one of the few places in the World that always has me running a mental check on my affairs as I’m driving to...

Totally agree with your comments 1 to 3...... 4,i think you'll find Combe is closer to a motorway than most tracks are,and isn't it the same for everyone who races there you drive to the circuits limits like ovals[of course that doesn't matter the walls are right against the track and Oulton parks run off isn't exactly up to par yet as its owned by MSVR that doesn't matter either.
A lot of the issues arn't anything that the circuit [Combe] can do anything about more like restriction s from the local council.
I know for a fact Combe have applied for many things like a pit complex in the centre but again it was thrown out.
The Combe GT is the prime example that even with powerful Sportscars and some have spent a small fortune will still lap faster than any of the GT cars and the racing dam close at times as Simon Tilling will Vouch for and with the prospect of the Bigger cc Cars like the Jade coming back next year the lap times will tumble further.

I hear what you are saying, and will grant you that point 3 is perhaps a little more due to where it is for me as much as for others hehe That said whilst it is closer than some it's not as accessible for all from all over the country as, say, Silverstone, Donington and Rockingham are.

Of course all drivers should always respect the circuit limits, but we know in the real World that they don't. Likewise they are often assisted in breaching those limits by other helpful drivers and circumstances. At Combe this means you will almost certainly hit the tyres. At somewhere like Sliverstone you have to really try.

When I was typing my earlier post I must admit that I was doing so knowing that Oulton could be seen by many to be in the same category as Combe on many levels. Whilst it is a fantastic track it is about 3 metres narrower than it wants to be imo. As I suspect you know, there are reasons why it is on the Calendar.

Most of the issues that stop the F3/GTs going to Combe are not the fault of Emma and co, nor can they do anything about it. It's just a fact of life when you are right next to Nimbyville.

I loved watching the CSGTs when I used to go there 3-4 time a year and yes there are some peeps out there spending serious money to field seriously quick cars. It is still a world away from 99% of the BGT grid though and there are 3-4(?) bigboys out there in the CSGTs, and at least 10 in the GT's, a number of whom have a lot more to prove and a lot less of their own cash tied up in the metal...

All in all, even though the thought of standing at Folly with a grid of F3's or GT's heading towards me on the first lap makes my ring twitch, I'd love to see them there again, I just don't think it will happen without some seismic changes in a number of areas.

PMSL at you ring twitch although just these past weeks and not before time the fencing has gone up all the way from folly to Avon Rise as you say there has been some 'BIG' shunts there this year has been no exception a fford guy was very lucky not to vault the wall if i'm honest.
At least we have Britcar which was fab this year one of the few highlights this year in a very if i'm honest poor 2011,2012 is looking at lot better.
