Annual AA membership renewal try on.
Discussion
Just had membership renewal paper through. For two of us, with roadside and relay, £155.95. Online, the same cover for £96. Having been a long time member, last year when they tried this, I picked up the phone and after a rant and getting put through to a superviser, I was promised that this would not happen again with my membership. Not very good at promises then are they?
I can't be bothered to rant again, so will take my business elsewhere now, not that companies like the AA bother to give a s
t anymore about dissatisfied customers.
Who is a good alternative? RAC? Green Flag?

I tend to switch from AA to RAC and back to AA...
All depending on who has the best offers on topcashback at the time. Cover normally costs about £8 per year after cashback.
I do this exacty, saves a fortune on the standard prices, all you have to do is remember to call and cancel come renewal timeAll depending on who has the best offers on topcashback at the time. Cover normally costs about £8 per year after cashback.
The annual phone call to the AA to get the price reduced to something sensible is as traditional as Christmas and Easter now. I've never even had to be put through to a supervisor. I just see it as a game, with those that don't make the call subsidising those that do.
Is it going to be that much different with any other breakdown insurance providers?

I know the renewal quotes from the AA can be expensive, but I dont think they quite run to the financing and servicing of a new Mercedes.
That sounds like the sort of financial logic the OH uses when it comes to buying stuff in sales. "I saved £10 and I only had to spend £100 on something I didn't really want in order to do so".The AA are really terrible for this. I have had this row with them for the last 3 or 4 years, and they end up dropping it (protesting that I will lose my entitlement to money off cases of wine!). This year they were really unhelpful and I spoke to a particularly unpleasant woman who told me that I apparently had one policy and another on hold, and I couldn't cancel either without making one active again. Ended up hanging up, ringing back and telling them to cancel everything I had with them. A month later some new cards dropped through the letterbox and a DD for over £200 went from the bank. Rang them and words were exchanged. I am now with the RAC (who will probably do exactly the same thing next year).
I had been with them since the late 90s, but they blew it, and I won't be using them again.

My Green Flag renewal automatically went through at £130. I went on line and was quoted £80. I called them up and the refunded me the difference. Does piss me off although there was no argument (unlike some people here seem to have had with AA - not saying that makes it right though, just easier to remedy). Green Flag seem to be better value than AA/RAC and have called them out and they were fine. Which magazine doesn't rate them as high as RAC/AA though.
