Size Is Relative - Sinn 356
Discussion
Apologies to those that have read this over on TZ-UK.
I've always loved the look of the Sinn 356, but have dismissed it time and time again due to it's relatively small case diameter of 38.5mm. I tend to wear 40-42mm and I've previously owned but sold a Speedbird 3 as I thought it was a touch too small at 39mm for my 7.5" wrist. However, every time I see a 356 come up for sale the urge gets stronger and stronger to buy one.
Last week I saw another on the TZ-UK Sales Corner and finally cracked. My thinking was it's a popular watch so I'll just flip it when the inevitable happens and I realise that it's too small. Anyway, it arrived Saturday morning, I opened the box and immediately though, "yep, it's tiny just as I imagined it would be". I put it on and although it still looked small, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The 14mm thick case with the domed acrylic crystal really gives it some wrist presence and it has bags of character.
So I've worn it continually for the last four days and all of sudden it doesn't feel small at all. When I place it next to my other, larger watches it does look a little petite, but wearing it with no other size reference it looks and feels perfect. Very comfortable too. This morning a Di-Modell Chronissimo landed from ebay and apart from looking great (in my humble opinion) it also gives the watch even more wrist presence. Not bad for a "tiny" watch and it goes to show that until you try it, you'll never know.
I don't like using the term "keeper" but you wont be seeing this one up for sale any time soon

Just goes to show that until you try you never know even with seemingly justified pre-conceptions. I've got a Speedbird GMT at 39mm and a Ball Ohio with the same size case but the Ball wears so much smaller as the bezel is wider leaving a smaller face and the lug width is also a couple of mil narrower, you'd never know the cases were the same unless you put them face to face.
Great that you took the gamble

The size of the dial is probably the same as a 44mm bezelled watch, and I'm surprised at how good the Di-Modell looks with it as I've found them slightly bulky (excellent straps though).
Great combo and excellent pictures too - it's a fab watch, very 'honest' and classic. I can see why you're tempted to hang on to it.

Yeah, it's so hard to tell until you get them on your wrist. I sold the SB3 to get a Damasko DA36 which is only 1mm bigger. It looked way larger on the wrist though.
I reckon the Di-Modell looks OK because the watch itself is so thick. It's comfortable enough but it'll take a bit of time to wear it in properly I'm sure. I do love the "classic" appearance of the watch, it looks much older than it is, especially with the domed acrylic.

Absolutely.I'm amazed at the amount of morons on various watch fora (not directed at you OP!) that claim they will only wear watches of a certain size (normally chimps claiming they can only wear watches that are 44mm+). I wear a wide variety of sizes, it's all just about how it feels. Had a 32mm, as I recall, Rolex Oyster and that was superb despite it's diminutive size.
