Thinking of booking 2 weeks in Italy in July next year.

Looking at possibly a week in Naples followed by a week along the coast, Salerno, Sorrento or Positano sort of thing.

Trying to budget for it and wondering how much spending money we will need for the two of us.

The hotel we are looking at booking includes breakfast, so that will be covered, but will need enough cash to cover lunch, dinner, drinks and any other little things when we are there.
Doubt it will make a difference, but it will be for a honeymoon.

Does anyone know how much we should need per day? We were thinking approx £150.00, but then again that could be way over...

We spend three or four months In Lucca each year.

Average daily food spend is around £60.

We eat out once every day and feed ourselves the rest of the time. This excludes alcohol.

Eating out in reasonable restaurants is cheap but if you want class restaurants you could easily spend £160 on a meal for two.

Matter of choice really.

I would have though £100 achievable depending on the venues chosen.

Wife and I had a week's holiday in the Amalfi area in September, based in Ravello. I kept a very detailed spreadsheet of costs. Here's a summary:

1. Hotel (3*) B&B basis, 7 nights: £1100
2. Restaurants- eating out for 7 evenings: £600
3. Other everyday expenses: buses, ferries, lunch, drinks etc, plus entry to various sites etc: £600

So, costs in Italy for the 7 days (excluding Naples-Ravello transfer costs) were around £2300.

Note that we did not try and spend the least possible neither were we profligate, so I think these are a reasonable indication of local costs, say nearer to £300 per day all found.

We've been going to various locations all over Italy for the past 10 years or so and there's no doubt costs have escalated in the past couple of years.

We booked the hotel and transfer direct. To be added are all the UK costs ie flights and travel to/from airport.

By the way, we went to Sorrento for a week last year..and the costs there are seriously more because of the number of tourists off cruise ships. I would not stay in Sorrento more than a day or two, there's far nice places around Amalfi. Sorrento was a big disappointment, although the hotel was really excellent.

Hope this helps you make the right decisions!
