W140 Transmission Question

Idly browsing Ebay, I came across this rather lovely looking W140 S500 coupe.

There's a long and flowery description about the car, but one statement looked a bit fishy to me:
"Due to the size of the vehicle, coupled with the fact that it is fitted with reverse parking markers, the TCU was given a factory setting delay of 4 seconds for selecting reverse and 2 seconds for selecting drive."
Is this true, or is it maybe a sign that the gearbox is knackered?

It's nonsense. My CL500 doesn't do that.
There's probably a problem with the box or electronics.
Looking at his write-up he says it's had a recon box a year ago and a replacement selector more recently - tread carefully.
Also it's a pre-facelift and both front and rear windows are delaminating, so even if there wasn't a gearbox issue his starting price is more than you'd want to be paying ...

Anyway, much as I love the thought of a big old barge like that, I'm not sure I can justify another 5litre V8 on the drive!

I have had three of them, including one with rear prongs but effectively a series 2 car (was a 1996 S500) and complete and utter nonsense.
I see also who the seller is - he has had quite a few Mercedes on there over the years, all with the same extended text.
Oh, just for fun:
- they are not AMG alloys. They are the standard alloys that came with the Series 2 CL series car. That car would have had 16inch alloys unless the owner selected AMG wheels. If it does have the AMG kit, I am pretty sure (will need to check) that could only be ordered with the AMG alloys...which look similar to, but are not, the ones on that car
- "Top Speed Electronically Limited To 131 MPH - Unrestricted 158 MPH". Err...no. The top speed (limited) of a 5 litre V8 C140 series coupe with the 5 speed gearbox is 155mph. In reality, GPS will show a speed of 252kph or 156mph and not an iota faster. Unless the limiter is taken off, it will not go faster than this.

"Firstly let me point out there is no delay in any of the cars gear changes, it is exactly as described FAULTLESS. The slight delay when first selecting either reverse or drive is down to the electronic setting to the cars TCU. This has been given a slightly longer period in which to engage due to the time the rear parking masts (telescopic guidance masts)take to come into effect. If you remove the TCU sensors you get immeadite engagement, but that is not the way in which this transmission has been set up to be. I have not found this a problem, in fact quite the contary, i have only mentioned in the fairness of being completely accurate. The time setting could be realtered, but only by Mercedes and i for one could not justify that cost. The car is exactly as described, just needs a new home."
