Why does iPhone mobile site randomly want to know location?

Quite often I'm on the PH forum mobile site on my iPhone. Sometimes, when loading a new page, I get the alert box to say yes or no to the site knowing my current location. What's that for then?

My guess is the Google ads on the page wanting to show you location related adverts.
