Gday all
.... A slight prob ....
After my ride up the hills...
During the ride ... i noticed every so often when i hit a pot hole or bump ...(not everytime).... a noise came from the front of car.
I thought it may have been something moving about in the front boot compartment....(i had taken everything out of it the day b4 to clean it),thinking it may have been the jack or jackhandle banging against something metal.
Also reversing out of a driveway on to a road that was a bit steep gave the same noise.
Getting back home i emptied everything out of the front boot including the spare wheel.
Took the car for spin going to where i first heard the noise... bumps on bend of road.....
It was still there.....
So put the car to bed ....

Any ideas for what it maybe ... from the vague desciption i have given....

I also thought it maybe the plastic trays underneath the car (engine end ).. gave them a bang underneath .. they seemed to be solid and still bolted in ok

Many Thanks

Hi,

Glad to hear the car and you made it down under in excellent shape! And, welcome back to the forum, it's been a while.

As far as the rattle is concerned, make sure that you have both the headlamp pod adjusting knobs still attached to the ends of the headlight motors. These will come loose, and are very good at hiding.

But, they will also reappear mysteriously and come to rest directly under the headlamp arm when the lamp is up. When you retract the lamp, these knobs will jam the arm and knock a tooth or two off of the internal gears which raise/lower the headlamp, possibly severly enough to cause replacement.

I have had this happen twice, the first did some damage, but the lamp still operates albeit at a slower rate than it's mate. Hope this helps. Happy Motoring! ...Jim'85TE

Had that on my S3. Turned out to be a noisy damper.
OE make was Armstrong.
