Took delivery of my 1M this afternoon,in the pouring rain!

Initial impressions are fantastic, even with the 4000rpm limit being imposed for the run in period it feels massively more punchy than my 135i did, just a huge wall of swollen torque that pushes you forward nicely,i cant wait to see the needle swing round a little more after the break in period.I also like the engine note, seems about right without being too intrusive,a nice meaty burble with a throaty enough growl as the revs rise.

The handling/grip is on an entirely different level also,a nice direct turn in with good weighting, the whole thing feels haunched on its knuckles ready to do what you ask,i once read it compared to a grown up mini, having owned a few Cooper S's i would say thats reasonably accurate,it feels nimble and wieldy and very 'chuckable',the ride firm without being too jarring,it absorbs bad roads very well indeed.

The cockpit is a great place to sit, everything close at hand, the darkness of the suede/alcantara creating a cosseting glove like sensation.

As an everyday M car (without getting into the whole bespoke motor debate) it really is spot on,and besides i love the N54 motor,if it had been made solely for the 1M and had never been seen before i think people wouldnt have been so unkind to it,in the the 1M application it fits perfectly, providing everyday real world performance and flexibility with realistic mpg and running costs.

I have owned a few pretty nice cars over the years and this is definitley up there with the best of them.

It really does feel like a series apart from any other 1 series.

BSM,which imo looks great, looks kinda classy and mean all at the same time.

Took my cousin for a late night blast, from the passenger seat he was all 'goes well, pretty quick, sounds nice,i like it'....so i let him have a drive and he just started grinning like an idiot.

It just feels so right from the drivers seat.

Read the 1M supplimental manual. You'll get an extra 1500rpm for the running in period...

Yes i noticed that, well i have nearly done the 1000 miles at 4000rpm max like the dealer said so i guess i will just have more fun when i have more to open up smile

Have just got back from a trip to Belgium to run a few of the miles off and i have to say the car performed brilliantly,i really do feel the M Division got this car spot on,considering it has just one damping setting etc only it really does cope with a variety of road surfaces rather well.

The ride is markedly better than a 135i with run flats,i do not find the suspension overly hard in the slightest,my GT3 was a hard ride,i find the 1M rather pliant by comparison.

Others have said the exhaust is too loud/boomy at motorway speeds,i dont find this to be the case, sure you can hear it but isnt that the point? Its certainly not unpleasant, even my good lady said she liked the sound it made.

The gearbox is a joy to use and i have an average mpg of 28.5 after 800 miles of 80+ mph motorway and city driving. Not too shabby for a 340 bhp motor, ofc it will drop a little when the revs rise but there is reasonable economy to be had if you want it.

I must say it drew a fair few admiring glances but not from everyone,ie its not to 'in yer face' which i like.

Will try to get some piccies etc soon(ish).

Aye, that's what the M cars feel like. Glad you like it. Seems a right little belter.

IMO this car is the successor to the M3 in pre-E90 guise. The E46 is quite a heavy lump and for me at least the E90 went the wrong way weight wise. The 1M really is the way forward. I'd have one in an instant.

Had my running in/oil changes yesterday, unrestricted rpm available now, have to say im impressed how much more there is despite max torque being around the 4000 rpm i had for the running in period anyway, sure it doesnt rev to 8 or 9k but it does like to rev and sounds great when it does, its a very sweet unit and not coarse when in the upper bands,i easily kept up with a 997 Carrera S who decided to try and shake me off up a short straight.

Pulling out of the dealers and joining the main road a VO 1M cruised by so we hooked up for a short period,it was the long term EVO car,had a brief chat with the driver at the lights,he was just off to get some new rear boots,he was in complete agreement with me about just how good this car is,in all honesty i think it actually feels at least as good on public roads as my CSL used to.

The more i drive it the better it gets.
