Is it worth me getting a warranty on the E93 I have just bought? I have been quoted £900 with an excess of £100, the cars only done 7500 miles. Or would I be better off just saving the money to go towards any bills, sorry but I have no idea about the reliability of M3's, or the costs if they go wrong.

Quite simply YES!! An M car with a warranty is peace of mind!

Hi P101,

There don't seem to be many reliablity issues with these cars when compared to the E46 (which I ran without warranty no problem), personally I'd bank the 900 "just in case" - and you may have a nice city break paid for at the end of the year. Others will be able to contrast this view I am sure - but it comes down to your risk appetite vs cost vs what the warranty actually covers.

Cheers

Kris

Sorry I-phone playing up..... Was going to add, in terms of problems there is nothing too major. We have seen a few at work with rear diff problems, tends to be on higher mileage cars, we had to replace the diff in all cases. Only other real thing is software updates to the DCT box. In terms of repair bills I can only assume a lot less than the Gallardo! Yes £900 is a lot of money for a warranty (I'm assuming it's an official BMW one) but as I said before its peace of mind. M stands for money after all!!!

In a word, YES! Get one. It only takes one little issue and it'll have paid for itself and more. I've done over £4k on my warranty since Jan.

I run an E46 M3 (late 2005) and still have the AUC warranty and will renew (if I still have the car) when it runs out. I haven't had any major mechanical problems but have had DVD unit/battery (yes they cover batteries)/all parking sensors/leccy window switch replaced under warranty so that would have been way over £900.00's work.

Previously I had a nearly new (bought 3 months old) E92 330i which again was covered by AUC warranty and I never made a claim in the 5 months I had the car. I doubt on a newer car like yours you'll have many issues, personally I'd bank the £900.00. Keep up the FSH and then if you still have the car a couple of years down the line then maybe think about warranty.

How new is the car? Is it not covered by 2 year initial warranty still?

Yes it's a BMW Warranty, I am hoping that as the car has only 7500 miles that not too many things will go wrong. But saying that, my old Maserati was on it's 3rd clutch by 12000 miles, it seems a bit of a gamble. Yes I am hoping repairs will be a lot cheaper than on the Gallardo. After owning a Gallardo, most cars seem cheap to run!

If the car has a BMW warranty why do you want to buy another one?

I have bought a 2008, so not in warranty. I was looking at newer cars, but the one I have bought is mint, I didn't see the point in spending another £5-6K on one a year newer.

I am looking at an m5. Not from a BMW dealer. It does not have a warranty. Full BMW service history. Can you put a BMW warranty on it?

Yes, so long as it below 60k miles and has a full BMWSH.

When I enquired about the BMW warranty there was no requirement to have FBMWSH. From my telephone conversation, a full service history to BMW standards was required. There is no mileage limit either. Above 60k miles the cost is very expensive though.

The E9X M3 is very reliable, though there is always a chance something may go wrong. Whilst labour rates are cheaper and standard of workmanship better at specialist independants, it's the cost of the parts is something does go run. After researching for a few weeks, I went with WarrantyWise as it covers all parts except a few which are clearly explained. I specifically did not choose the BMW one as I don't trust them to service my M3 and instead use an excellent specialist.
