I don't do many miles but some are on ungritted country roads so even with winters my RWD cars aren't ideal.

So I fancy something FWD or 4WD must be at least 2+2 and I'd like something unusual so no Scoobies / Evos

I prefer instant grunt rather than high strung 16v and have come up with

Fiat 20v Coupe
Pulsar GTiR
GTV V6

Anything else spring to mind ?

The pulsars have a clutch which is only just good enough for the job, so if you look at a modified one make sure its got a good clutch.

I can't tell you how poor my gtv is on snow/ice.

If you get one, I'd budget for winter tyres as if it's anything like mine, it's pure comedy trying to move anywhere on skippy surfaces with regular tyres.

In all seriousness, my mx5 was better in the snow.

I was going to use my kit car a bit more, but I think I'm going to buy an early 80's Escort with a big Zetec in it and hope it's been undersealed

Fiat coupes doors and handbrake cables freeze in the winter! No idea how they drive in the snow (mine was always tucked up in the winter) but heavy over the front so should be OK

My 20v coupe was crap in the winter. as has been said, handbrake cables freeze, as do the doors, and door handles... in fact i'd go as far as saying its the worst car i've had for winter use.

To be honest, the 3 series we had until recently was absolutely fine in the winter with the right tyres on. With the Blizzak winters on it was just awesome, better than any fwd on summer tyres.

Yes I'd throw a pair of winters on the front.

Sounds like the Fiat's out then - TBH I prefer NA anyway.
