It does look like one of those Japanese caricature things, sadly.

Do you think a Gandini or Giugiaro design (1966 transitional period)? I'd go for the former due to the similarity to the BMW Garmisch and windowline of the Iso Lele amongst others, not to mention the hexagon design cues all over inc the dash.

I thought it was going to be this

I'm a little disappointed, that concept is definitely less cool.

Yes, their XK based cars were rather tasty.

The glass area is excessive in relation to the lower section of the car. Reminds me of, especially in the rear 1/4 of the lovely old Opel Commodore's. Wouldn't give five out of ten.

shows you just how good the jaguar styling is, in my opinion

That is a lovely OP. Timeless classic IMO. Bet it sells for a packet though!

Looks like the love child of an old BMW and a dodge charger.

The glass seems too deep for the rest of the car.

Except that the BMW it looks like is the the E12, original 5 series and it pre-dates it by a good 6 years.
The likeness is not surprising thought since that was penned by Marcello Gandini when he was at Bertone.

Looks very similar to a Maserati Mexico but not so elegant.

Somehow they've got the proportions of the glass area all wrong.

I think you're right. It's got a touch of this to it.

It does look a bit top heavy, but I guess also we are becoming more used to cars, which to satify safety requirements, have the reverse proportions. I bet it's good to ride in, very light and airy, but for sure it would need powerful air con!

It's funny how the old grey matter gets stirred and then gets it totally wrong (in my case lol!)

Looking at the Jag I thought I'd seen some older pics of this car before and after some hunting came across them c/o Keith Adams excellent AROnline Site

So very similar..black, wire wheels, S type front bumper and indicators and of course a leaper on the bonnet - ummnn but thats about it! Dozy bat! smile

You can definitely see the BMW side profile and I can see the Iso Lele but what also struck me was how similar the rear swage line and window was to the Carmargue /Fiat 130 but there again perhaps when Paolo Martin designed them had he picked up the same styling cues, maybe spent some earlier time in his career at Bertone?

Personally I quite like the Jag, the window glass area is too large for my eye but the interior is pretty well executed.

Further pics of the XJ prototypes for those that are interested.
