Rear number plate

The GF and I are planning a trip to France in July in the Chim. I know that some people bother with the GB stickers and others don't, but I don't particularly want to stick anything to the back of the car.

So, I thought I'd get myself a new rear plate - one with the Euro stars and GB. Especially as a new rear plate is only £7.99. (www.fancyplates.com)

So, a few questions:

1. Is the rear plate just stuck into the recess on a 1998 Chim (angled plate)? There don't appear to be any screw holes.

2. If they are just stuck on, do Fancy Plates automatically supply the plates with sticky pads, and non screw holes, or do I need to specify this?

3. Are there any legal issues with just replacing the rear plate, and leaving the non-euro star/GB plate on the front?

Can't answer for 1 or 3 but for 2
they supply with no holes and sticky

really wouldnt bother. after the recent Le Mans and onwards jaunt i reckon about 50% of the brit cars had GB stickers. I kept one in the glove box just in case of coming across an irritated gendarme.

Do you need back-lit rear plate? If so your price is wrong, there is a drop down box you need to click when ordering.

I think you have to go through the Fancyplate setup, where a standard plate is £11.50 and a TVR backlit is £23.50

Nope, no back lit plates for me. Mine's a '98 Chim, with the angled plate. The guy before me added plates with a blue border, so actually, to get the same style plate, with GB is £11.50. (The standard plate with no border, but with GB is £7.99.)

Shnozz, I know that a lot of people do get away without the GB sticker - but i guess I'd just end up worrying if I was going to get pulled over.

Other option I suppose is to just get a mini-GB sticker, and stick it on the left of the existing number plate.

Anyone know where to get one of those?

Never had a GB sticker and never been pulled in 7 years of Le Mans trips.

You can get free GB stickers on P&O ferries. Im planning to get one of them and stick it in the glove box. If i get pull "opps, sorry, i forgot all about it"

I've got a bike/moped shop just up the road from work, so I shall pop in there one lunch time and see if they have an GB stickers.

Should have a enough room to stick one next to the letters on my number plate.

If the reason you're not keen on sticking anything to the rear of the chim is to protect the paint, you can preserve the paintwork by putting vaseline on the target area. A small dab is all you need, spread with a soft cloth until you can't see it, then apply the sticker.
When you're ready, the sticker will come off without a problem. It might sound freakish, but it works.

Had you considered a St George Flag instead of a sticker...they seem quite popular at the moment?

I believe you may be able to get a matching shirt, hat, socks and tatoos...should obviate the need for a GB sticker!
