Extended fuel tank
Discussion
I go on quite a few spirited drives and often use 50-70L in one night. I am concerned that with an LS7 drinking 25-30L/100km from the tap, i'll drink the 40L or whatever the Ultima tanks hold quite quickly.
Has anyone developed and positioned another fuel tank in their car?
Apart from asking friends to carry fuel for me, I am not sure what to do.

Hi Alex,
you can savely use approx 55-60 lites out of the ultima tanks, my experience is that the pump is start sucking air when braking if I can later put 32 liters in it. So for both tanks that makes 64 liters. You still have then enough fuel to crawl home.....
I thought about asking the factory to make the tanks in a rectangular shape instead of the wedge design that would add at least another 10 liter per tank but you would loose half of the side openings. If you find other ways to get air in the car, this is the easiest option that will give you 80 liters of usablae capacity.

Whooo. my sums say that you are projecting 5.5 to 7 miles to the gallon. If this is your experince with an LS7 you don't need a bigger tank you need a better engine tune, RATGTR has run his 600 HP ls7 GTR at the Silver State event in Nevada thats 90 miles at 150mph. He got 10 miles to the gallon. We all do a little spirited driving from time to time but if your not on the autobahn....... Just a little reality check I hate to see figures thrown out like that as if they are factual. Furthermore both the rat man and I have run the road course at California Motor Speedway thats 4, 20 minute sessions in a day niether one of us used a full tank. in fact I didn't start with a full tank. Alex is probably looking at the specs of an LS in a Holden which is the GM brand that we have here. Actually my Holden with an LS1 making 360rwhp used 20l/100km around town and 50l/100km on the track. But being in a Holden the are a 1800kg car, and do go through the fuel that much. What Alex is forgetting is an Ultima is a light car and doesn't use anywhere near the fuel consumption of a Holden.Alex to give you an idea one of the guys here with an LS7 in an Ultima uses 10L/100km.
The Ultima struggles with MPG as well, mainly because the transaxles used have unsuitable ratios!! Ive seen 27mpg on a motorway run from a standard LS3 with a .75 6th gear ratio (G50 20) and no better than 22mpg with a LS7 with a G50 03 ratios.
I think 30 mpg would be achievable in an Ultima with a good set of ratios ie 2000rpm at 80mph cruising in top gear.

I was speeking with a couple of the guys that run the gt3 spec porsched the other day, they strugle to see much over 300km/h on the tracks due to the lenght of the straights, with this in mind a 200mph top gear would be a waist on most tracks in Australia. standard ratios would probably be more than adequate for track use. I understand that the 5th gear is in the rear most section of the transaxle, would it not be to hard to swap back to an original spec 5th for track day use, and have a large overdrive gear for road days?
could this be done with the gearbox still in the car?
I have seen hewlands on single seaters and gtp/group c cars being altered between sesions at the track. just not seen anyone do it on a pork g50.
