Hi,

I have just bought an old Micra and have 2 week temporary insurance on it. The reason being my partner holds a full Turkish licence (not in EU) and the several companies I rang up that offered the lowest quotes said they would not be able to add her as a second driver because she has a Turkish licence.

The comparison websites are crap at distinguishing this as I have to go through all the rigmarole only to find out if I ring up they won't do it.

So to save time, does anyone know off hand which companies will insure non EU licences? LV I heard do but they won't insure students (which we are).

Any help is greatly appreciated in advance.

I had the same problem last year with the missus who held an american license and we insured her with Carole Nash. Most companies are okay if you can actually get to speak to someone even though their online forms don't appear so.

She's now got a full UK license though, and the insurance skyrocketed...

Thanks for that, I'll look into them. The cheapest quote I got was from admiral at about £900 for the year, but when I rang up hoping to get the price reduced a little they said 'can't add your partner as we don't cover Turkey'. Same with elephant.

I am unclear as to the difference between 'international' and just foreign licence. I know for a fact (DVLA and directgov website) that she can drive legally on a Turkish licence for 12 months after which she has to get a UK licence, but elsewhere I have seen it written that she would need to go into the DVLA office and ask them to issue an 'international' licence upon presenting her Turkish one and only then could she comfortably get insurance cover. Any ideas?

What was Carole Nash like price wise?
