Number Plates stolen?

Anyone else had their number plates stolen?
I went to pick the car up from where its parked (on a quiet residential street) and was shocked to see both front and rear plates had been removed (screw on).
Had to go visist the police station and they have put a marker on the plates, said it was quite common thing these days.
