PS3/HDMI Problem
Discussion
I've mentioned this in the BF3 thread but I don't want to clutter it up with my woes, wondering anybody can help because my head is exploding at the moment and all I'd like to do is play my game in HD!
Works fine with Scart/Component but if I plug in an HDMI cable it asks if I want to use it on start up, and I do, so I select okay, and the screen goes blank and thats it. Nothing. I then end up needing to reset the video settings by holding down the button.
Am I missing something?
Cable tested and works.
TV is an LG HD model.
Very annoying!

Hmmm, I believe the problem usually happens the other way around. When changing from HDMI back to component getting the component ports live again.
Once the PS3 has detected the HDMI it should prompt you to detect the resolutions that the TV is capable of and choose which you want.
When the PS3 detects an HDMI I believe that it then tries to "handshake" with that device, is the TV set to the correct HDMI channel? Does the TV have more than one HDMI?
I use my HDMI in two ways (on PC but same principle) for sound and video and just for sound, the PC makes a connection sound when I plug it in and when I change things around.
Maybe the PS3 is detecting the HDMI but failing the handshake or detecting sound capabilities only?
In short, does the TV have another HDMI to try?

Some where in the settings you need to enable the HDMI display.
Had this problem when I let the wife loose to play a video, I saw a message that said something like 'HDMI connection detected do you wish to change resolution' before I had chance to stop her she pressed something. Twenty minutes later I'd sorted it out. Two days later we are talking again.

Mate, I had exactly the same problem!!
The solution is actually really simple...make sure your PS3 is in standby mode, then hold down the power button until you hear the first, keep it held down, and wait for the second beep. It'll then reset it to "auto detection" mode. It'll then pick up your HDMI and voila!
Hope it works for you, it worked fine for me
Word of warning, depending on the game, it'll generally only show at 720p, so dont be surprised if you notice it's not 1080.
