Does anyone know anything about these?
I remember when these first came out I liked them more than my wife despite thier ridiculous price tag.
Now 9 years on they are a relatively affordable used buy.
Are they so outdated as to be st? I realise they don't even have HD
Basically I want to be talked into it as there has never been a better looking tv made and i reckon there never will be. I love them.
SO, a complete waste of time or still a worthy tv?

For reference I have a Beovision3 CRT tv which, despite a lack of HD, I still love and have never thought it had an inferior picture to even modern HD plasmas.

The panel itself is an older Panasonic one, but picture quality wise and heavy power consumption count against it from what I've read. It depends if you're buying it to look at or to watch I suppose. I certainly wouldn't be paying much for one compared to the new price; in terms of picture quality you'd easily beat it with one of the current base model Panasonic sets for under £500.

It seems that you can get them for about £1000 now which is a fraction of thier original price.
If I bought one it would be with the knowledge that a new £500 tv is probably a better picture so Im realistic.
I just wonder if the picture would actually be st enough to annoy me, or just not crystal clear. I could look at it switched off all day

Would you be happy to pay a grand for a poor picture but a TV that looks good turned off? That's all you have to decide really. Kind of like buying a Ferrari with a 1 litre engine...looks good parked up but for it's main purpose doesn't compare with what you can get for a fraction of the price thesedays.

Some of the sites I work at have older Plasma screens showing company type videos and the pictures on these Fujitsu (sp?) and some Panasonics would annoy me if it were my only TV. Sure they were impressive when I first saw them 6-7 years ago (when most flat screens were out of my price range), but thesedays less so as they look washed out and blacks are grey even though the picture isn't very bright.

Is there not a £1,000 current TV that you like the look of? I'm personally not keen on some of the newer Panasonics but there are various models and styles (I wouldn't dare suggest any other make on here wink ). That way you'd get a much better picture and a warranty. Remember that even if you pay a grand for the Beovision it could still breakdown and repairs may be uneconomic or even not possible, so a waste of the purchase price.

This is my question really. If the picture is indeed 'poor' then no, I wouldn't.
Outside B&O, all tvs look pretty uniform to me thus I would definitely go down the better picture route.
I just cant get excited about a 'normal' tv.

Yes, me too...I used to happily spend hours looking at TVs in the better displayed places, but since getting a projector 4 years ago and relegating my TV for day to day stuff I can't really get excited about a new TV. IMHO a 60" would look OTT even in my 6.5 x 4 metre room and the screen would still dwarf it at near 10' wide and it retracts out of sight when not in use.

Maybe I should buy a Beovision 5 as I tend to spend more time on my laptop than actually watching it and the rest of the family probably wouldn't care about PQ anyway. smile

I've got one - up close it's obviously less sharp than the artificially vivid LED tellys but when sitting on the sofa watching normal standard def channels through a SKY+ box it looks superb. Sounds great as well.

It's for sale as well ;-) looks a bit big in my room now as I've moved and I'm sharing a flat so a 42" is a bit big for a bedroom! Pm if interested...
