As per the other thread we have a Stoves Range cooker on which the thermostat appears to have gone, and I can't find a replacement one. So looks like we might need a new one 90cm wide.

So what options should we consider? A single wide oven or a double oven? Which manufacturer? Seems that in John Lewis prices start at £914 for an Electrolux, then increasing through the John Lewis range, Belling, Stoves and up to Rangemaster before going well out of budget.

However at Comet they start at £499 for a Flavel(?), going up through Delonghi (?), Baumatic (?), New World, Hotpoint, Belling, Caple (?), CDA (?, Leisure (?), before getting to the John Lewis starting price.

So Comet have 34 models which are under the starting price of those at John Lewis so what makes the difference in price? Is it worth paying? Oh and what are the bets that price comparision and price matching don't work as the model numbers are slightly different per store!

Have you tried ringing Stoves? I needed some new parts due to my missus temporarily forgetting the basic rules of combustion and tea towels. I was sent a whole range of parts and the bits I didn't need I could send back.

I got the impression that it was a call centre that deals with various companies but they were very helpful.

We bought a Rangemaster many moons ago - people complain about them but I quite liked it. We got the All Gas option as well (which still had an electric oven on one side!!)..

Done that. Thet said it sounds like the thermostat, we'll charge £125 to come out to it and confirm, but the thermostat is obsolete and we dont have any. If we cant fix it we'll refund you £50.

So was going to cost us £75 for them to tell us they couldnt fix it!

Have you Googled some of the parts suppliers.

http://www.espares.co.uk/parts/cookers-and-hobs/th...

http://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/search.pl?quer...

Of course you will need the model number.

Or if you know someone clever enough this firm do a generic replacement.

we eventually went for this:-
http://www.rangecookers.co.uk/belling-db4-90df-pro...

looked at loads in our budget, and you know what swung it?? it was recc'd as one of the top ten range cookers in grand designs magazine. Who says advertising doesn't sell? lol.

very good capacities in the ovens, easy to use and easy to clean.

Right have spoken to numerous parts suppliers all of whom say our cooker is obsolete and you can't get the thermostat for it.

So anyone else got any recomendations?

We've had a 90cm Rangemaster for a year or so now and are very happy with it (gas hobs, electric ovens). It looks nice and is easy to use. Our decision to buy it was mainly based on a good deal we were able to get at the time rather than an in-depth comparison of other types, but in saying that we've got no complaints whatsoever. No direct experience of other types though I'm afraid. I also liked the fact that the tall oven was advertised as being able to roast 6 chickens at the same time. We've yet to test that capability. smile

Try this kit of parts to fix your oven:

http://www.ransomspares.co.uk/parts/cookers-hobs/b...

Make sure you label all the wire ends as you take them off.

The paper that come with the kit were black and white prints, but Stoves sent us colour pdfs so we could see the wire colours and wiring in took about an hour. Just take your time and logically follow the very clear instructions and mark off each cable as you change it out.

This fix saved our cooker early last year, so considerably cheaper than buying a new oven. As only one stat assembly failed we still have the second switch available in case we neeed it.
