Anyone got any ideas of how to accurately locate the wing brackets?

No matter how accurately you position it they still look wrong from certain angles.

You`re right Steve, but they aren`t. We observed it recently on a black GTR and found that it depends only on where you stand - ehe angle you look at it isn`t exactly 90 degrees most of the time as the rear end has a curve that you need to consider when looking at the wing.
E.g. if you look at it from the left, the wing seems to be closer to the rear with the nearside fixing but if you look at it from the right it`s the same effect but vice versa, i.e. the right mount seems to be closer to the rear end.

It must be a built in optical illusion as the position of the wing most certainly stays the same...

Many thanks just what I was looking for. Panicking a bit as it's due up to Ultima tomorrow week for a check up and SVA and the list seems to be getting longer not shorter!

One more question how to you bolt on the bottom of the internal bracket as it is bolted onto a closed moulding?

Thanks again for your help

You need to drill a big hole that is large enough to reach inside with a wrench of the correct size to tighten the locknut or at least hold it in place. It`s a good idea to put some adhesive tape on one side of the wrench so the locknut will be fixed in it. You`ll never be able to retrieve it if it falls down...

If you cut the access hole carefully with a cone cutter you can make it just the right size for a blind grommet to finish the job nicely.

Id let Ultima SVA it without the wing then fit it afterwards, less hassle, less rush, less to worry about

Maybe even Ultima will mark where the holes go for you too.

^ Frequently the obvious remains illusive........make IVA simple and avoid as many testable items as possible (old smog test sbc etc etc)

The Factory are quite experienced on many issues and do assist if required .. recognition being a sign of recovery.

As a quick comment on fitting a wing (i've not fitted one yet as i'm planning to IVA the car first as everyone suggests), I have thought about the best way to position it and have come up with placing the assembled wing onto the car and using a string or tape measure, check the distance from the front outside tips of the wing to a fixed point on the car near the front (e.g. wheel centre as long as the wheels are dead straight. In this way, no matter how it looks, you know it's in line with everything on the car.
Maybe it won't be that simple when i come to fit it myself, but that's my plan for doing it.
