i've got a set of 15" o.z split rims that i need to refurb, they are generally in not bad condition (no kerbing) but starting to look shabby. i usually use lepson but they will not touch these due to the spliting them.

plan A is to find a tool to split them myself, shoot blast and paint, then refit with new bolts (caphead or torx). but i'm under the impression that finding the means to undo bolts could be impossible.

plan B is to keep wheel joined, shoot blast and paint but will risk loosing detail around bolts!

plan C use different wheel

any thoughts or alternative plans would be appreciated (in an ideal world i want the wheels in anthracite/dark grey/black with polished rim where bolts go)

Just wonderingrolleyes how do you get alloys polished up to that mirrored look, can it be done by yourself or is it a specialist job.

There are kits out there. You need various grades of polishing compound and polishing mops. Cordless drill or dremel type multi tool should be fine.

I'll be attempting it myself soon so i'll keep things posted on here. Prob do a before/after pic etc and let people know what probs if any i have.

For something the size of wheels you will be better off with a 4-5" sisal polishing mop kit..A dremel will take forever..If you have a bench grinder you can turn it into a bench polisher which would make it a bit easier as there can be a lot of mess that goes along with polishing, Some people use a cardboard box as a half booth to catch it..There are also some yellow soap cutting compounds that give a real mirror final polish..Dont forget the eye protection..Ziga

I need to remove some laquer of the rims of the Tuscan OZ's. I think Nitromors is ok for this. My 15's just need splitting so i can paint the spokes, otherwise they're tidy enough for me.

I always polished my own wheels but after finding out how cheap it was for a pro to do it I wont bother doing it again. Will be having the lips on my O.Z's done by a local firm for £100.

Just to show you can get really good results at home but this did take me days and days

Yes Mark but for tidying up kerbed rim edges i think a dremel or similar with appropriate sanding/grinding attachments will be easier to hold/manipulate than a larger drill. I'll let you know.
