Stop and go penalties

Are they still given in F1? Don't remember the last time I saw one or heard of the possibility of a driver receiving one.

If they have gone, why? Surely it's a good way of making the punishment fit the crime, so you could adjust the length of the stop....

Nope, they are still there. I *think* it goes something like:

Reprimand
Fine
Gird Place drop
Drive Thru
Stop & Go
Time penalty (imposed after race)
Disqualification

Not a real stop/go penalty compared to yesteryears penalties. A drive-thru at Silverstone this year isn't deemed enough of a penalty because the pitlane cuts out the last corner.

I think it was MS who got a stop-go in the 2011 British GP for running into the back of KK. Looked it up on Internet and found two sources that agree.

I remember cars in the 1990's being held there for 10 seconds.

Then it seemed to be a stop/start in your pit box for a very short while, now it seems to be mostly drive-throughs.

Yup I think it was KK who got one at the British GP, due to the fact that the new layout means trundling through the pits at 60mph is QUICKER than completing the full lap

They still exist - as someone earlier pointed out Schumacher had one this year.

I think they are used when the pitlane layout means that a drive through would not be much of a penalty.

Silverstone 2011 - Schumacher got one for running into Kobayashi, then Kobayashi got one for an unsafe release. As others have said, this was due to the new pitlane at Silverstone being such that a drive through was not a disadvantage (or perhaps, not enough of a disadvantage).

Before that, I honestly can't remember the last time I saw one.

Buemi received a stop/go for speeding in the pits at the Malaysian GP this year

Kubica received a stop/go for unsafe pit release at Hungarian GP last year

Slightly embarrassed that I'd forgotten about silverstone, especially since I was there!!! I guess that was a special case though, as said it was only because the pit lane was a handy short cut.
