This seems like such an easy question, but I can't find the answer anywhere....

Got a National B Race Licence in March, I've done 6 races, finished them all (god knows how - my car is like one of those Laurel and Hardy jobs!), and so I now have 6 signatures on my upgrade card.

Do I have to upgrade to an 'A' Licence now, or can I wait until January and avoid the upgrade fee?

A less impressive variation of the same question, Ive got 3 signatures on my novice kart licence from this year, can I carry them over to next year?

I don't know, but usually the upgrade conditions say over what period signatures need to be collected.

I think signatures for upgrades are valid for about 3 years.

You don't need to upgrade if you don't want to. For the average club racer, the only difference is the licence cost.

I'd like to perhaps do some international events (Spa, maybe) at some stage in the future, so I'm working towards that. Need to upgrade I think, but don't want to spend upgrade money unnecessarily.......

..... if you are racing with someone like "The Classic Sports Car Club" at Spa, then a 'National A' is the required grade!

Well, yes - indeed! Mystery over though - I rang the MSA and apparently it's perfectly fine to wait until January - I just apply for a 'National A' and include my upgrade card.

Sorted.

Make sure you keep a photocopy of your upgrade sigs just in case there is a problem with it arriving - easier than trying to get the sigs again!

rgely depends on what year your car is,if its pre 65 you could upgrade to International Historic with five signatures.

I recieved last week (as you may have done too) my renewal pack for 2012. Fill it in and send it off at the end of next week as 2012 renewals start from the 1st December. For those who do not wish to upgrade you can do it all online, otherwise its mandraulic form filling and chucking it in the post.
