We currently have an electric shower over a bath. However, because nobody in our house uses the bath for actually taking a bath anymore I'm considering taking it out and putting in a dedicated shower cubicle.

But - I do have the space to move the bath to another part of the bathroom so could keep it as separate unit although obviously it would mean less space to move around.

What's your experience? Do people still take baths or is the trend more towards showers?

All our kids have grown up and fled the nest so we have no small people to consider although I would guess that if we sold this house to a young couple they might be interested in having a bath for their offspring..

Be interested in your opinions because we can't make up our minds....

I suffer with various aches and pains quite often and whilst I prefer a shower. A bath is good for pain relief.

I like to soak in a hot bath and watch TV. Standing up naked and having water sprayed at me is not my idea of relaxation.

But I may be in a minority.

All houses must have a bath as they are unsellable without one

Nobody uses them but the house must have one

I'd never buy a house without a bath...as I have baths in preference to showers.
I have a bath with shower above it.

I prefer showers. Last time I had a bath was December 28th 2010 after crashing at a mate's house in London who didn't have one. It wasn't bad but I rarely have/set aside the time to run a bath let alone to sit in it for a period of time.

I got rid of the bath when I lived on my own as I thought like you, I never use it.

However a few months down the line I regretted it. I'd come home from playing footy and think "I'd love a bath".

I had to put one back in the end.

You restricted your Market, therefore I think it unlikely you achieved maximum potential sale price.

Whenever I'm in a hotel the one thing I always take the time to do is run a really, stupidly deep bath and lie in it for ages.

I don't use the bath in the house very often but I wouldn't be without it.

I'd go for both, and in fact it was one of the re reasons we bought our current house as it has both - mind you had I realised the hot water tank had been removed and a combi boiler installed to provide the space for the shower I might have thought differently!

As people have said baths are lovely after a hard day gardening, or sport, or watching rallying, if your feeling poorly, hungover. My wife wouldnt allow me to buy a house with out a bath!

Definitely both as you have the space.

It went for the asking price and the lack of bath wasn't mentioned by any viewers. Perhaps having a bath in would have got me another £100k - who knows?

Don't see the point of baths... who wants to claim that they are clean by lying in dirty water for ages??

I removed the bath in mine and replaced it with a wet room, however I own a flat and the room itself was only 1.8m by 2.5m, so when it was in there it was very crowded.

They won't mention it but families apparently prefer baths. I don't get it, myself. If I wanted to wash children, I'd simply make them stand in the garden and hose them until they are soaked through and crying. Simples.

It's easier if you come out of hospital and want to keep a wound clean. Just dump salt in bath, add water, lie for a few minutes. But I'm lazy. biggrin
