Britball Run

Driving can still be a pleasure? How do you fancy a three day trip around the UK?

More news reaches us today of anothe road trip. They're all the rage currently, be they across the USA, around Europe or even just up and down the UK.

The 2004 British Cannon Ball Run (Britballrun) will take place over the period of three days on Saturday 28th, Sunday 29th and Bank Holiday Monday 30th August 2004. The total distance travelled around Great Britain over the three days will be 1,200 miles. The route will not be disclosed. The participants are free to drive whatever route they think is optimal to get to the next compulsory checkpoint or endpoint. The exact route and details of destinations will only be issued upon arrival at each checkpoint. There are no categories of vehicles and the event is open to all makes, models and years of vehicle.

Britballrun will proceed under an application for special approval to be granted from the Motors Sports Association and will be subject to the Road Traffic Act and the Motor Vehicles (Competitions and Trails) Regulations.

The event is a trial of navigation, forward planning, decision making and a test of your ability to drive – it is not a race!

Road rallies, always fancied a go. not sure about a 3 dayer though.

How much is it though?
(apart from £266 in fuel that I just estimated it would be in the Griff!)

£595 for two people.

Sounds good, but too much for a single driver.

It sounds really good but I just know I'd lose my license.

driving and Bank holiday weekends DO NOT go together.

I'm now banned by my girlfriend from driving on bank holiday weekends after an "incident" with a caravan the last time....

BLING ALERT
I shall be watching this with great amusement.

There's half a dozen Sierra Cosworths

One XR4i

Loads of RS Escorts including another 2 Cosworth

Plus there are also three Ferrari's a Diablo, three Lotus Esprit's and and two TVR's, plus other unnamed cars yet to finalise.

All within the legal limit and never over 70mph?

Yeah Right

Essex will be a quiet place at the end of August. Just by looking at the names of some of them gives an inclination of what it will be like:
"Disqual Gang"
"The Retards"
"Essex Boys"

I wonder whether the bib will even grant it a license from the start - especially as its a bank holiday?

Why would anyone choose to do this in the UK?

Bye bye licence!

On the Terms and Conditions page I read it as driver and vehicle for £590, plus £265 per additional 'entrant' (aka driver or passenger).

Someone is going to make a nice packet from this stupid exercise - Britteam Limited (oh, and the Scamera/plod who will no doubt catch plenty of twats joining in on this event).

Also like the termination clauses in their Ts and Cs, allowing for deductions of company expenses if cancelled within 70 days of the start date.

Serves anyone right for even considering this, in the UK, on a Bank Holiday Weekend - or any time really!

Totally bemused by this idea, I must say.

Yeah like it. peoplelost a lot of money last year when a similar event went bust, in this one they are even giving themselves a get out clause

Outrun No Going Back 2004 is cheaper, £750 per car inc driver and passenger. We are set to do approximately 2000 miles over 3 days, all in the UK, checkout www.out-run.co.uk/noflash/NFnews.html for a couple or reviews from last years tour.

Interesting debate – now here’s the facts:

1. It is not a race. The is more to driving than just chewing up tarmac.

2. £590 is for two people in the vehicle and all extras are included.

3. All entrants agree to the Road Traffic Act and Highway Code and drive within their own limits/policy.

4. We have no plans to cancel the event. The event is protected against cancellation on our behalf with £50k insurance and £5million liability cover. The quoted section of the T&C protects us from entrants leaving the event en mass that makes cancellation the only economically viable option. The T&C also imply that any cancellation on our behalf through negligence will mean that we are liable for all costs and breach of the Unfair Contract Law. I have personally sunk a lot of cash behind this already. The application form also contains my home address for personal contact – would I really put this if I anticipated cancellation!

5. We have a licence to run the event in England and Wales from the MSA and in Scotland from the RSAC. This licence for 130 cars has cost us nearly 1-year of research and £000’s in legal costs. All police authorities know of our intentions and know the exact route to be taken. We have been praised by the authorisation bodies for how well the event has been planned and organised.

I welcome any further comments: dan@britballrun.co.uk

PS - also watch the event on Men & Motors: six 30 minutes episodes planned (would they want to waste their time, money and efforts as well?)

I'd rather do www.pr-photography-tour.org, it's more expensive surely, but you are donating money to charity, they're none profit making and you're getting a whole lot more for starters, tracktime, factory tours, parties, hob-nobbing with celebs, sounds brilliant and far more appealing, can't wait!

Hmmm, a route plan, a website and a word to go in front of "ball run". Add that all together and get a pile of cash.
