Test drove an Evoque today.
Discussion
1st one in the country (NZ) - a Dynamic SD4 auto.
What a special feeling car.
Smaller than I thought it'd be but felt spacious inside - tardissy.
It was well specced and the materials were just beautiful. Equipment for Africa too, it'd take me an month to work it all out.
I can't think of another mid size 4wd that comes close - Q5, X1, X3, Tiguan etc all seem boring in comparison.
Those square tailpipes are a bit too Judge Dredd and the it's not for shrinking violets but it drove with authority, hustled backroads and they say it'll wade rivers like a proper Rangie.
Have to make up my mind by the morning, can't sleep thinking about it.
56,000 Sterling though........

Import taxes in NZ make most imports pretty expensive I gather?
They had some at the LR off-roading place I went to - and the instructors were very impressed with their off-road capability (as was I from what I could see them doing). All a moot point as most will never see more than a curb or a wet field!

No import taxes over here - it's mainly a reflection of the strength of the NZ dollar that skews the pricing so high - other market factors including dealers getting away with excessively high rrps etc should be noted. They had some at the LR off-roading place I went to - and the instructors were very impressed with their off-road capability (as was I from what I could see them doing). It's $108k over here, that would have worked out to 48k sterling a few weeks ago and 30k sterling a few years ago.
I live in the Footballers Wives/TOWIE belt in Essex and they're already a pretty common sight - in Waitrose carpark yesterday there were three of them
I still think they look great from the front, though a bit tucked up at the rear (not sure about bootspace or whether the Pekinese would be able to jump up
), and they'll sell millions.

OP, out of interest how did you find the rear visibility?
Worse than cars with full sized rear windows, better than my loaded work van, not an issue. There's sensors, rear view cameras and auto dip wing mirrors for the spatially unaware.
I'm in South Island NZ, with a population of only one million people in an area the size England + Wales, the local city - Christchurch - all but collapsed in the earthquake and is now closed to the public, the roads are empty, parking is a doddle, footballers wives and Chelsea Mums don't exist and we regularly 'green lane', parameters are different here.
