Right I am a big GT5 fan, however, a few months ago I purchased an Xbox360 & Forza 3, I loved the game and have since bought FM4. GT5 has remained on the shelf ever since...

I am level 32 (I think) and have a lovely collection of cars, trouble is im now at the stage where 800pp+ cars are needed to complete certain events.

I use a Pad and turn off all driving aids, I have a stonking range of cars to deal with all categories, the cars handle superb and I LOVE driving them, especially my 500pp MR2, 600pp Impreza & 700pp 458.

I have the Le Mans M3 and spent ages turning it into a Gulf Race car, it looks SUPERB so I thought I would give it a blast. Although it is super quick, it handles like a pig, the back end fish tails under half throttle, the car cant even launch straight, keeping the back end planted through a corner is impossible etc. I thought the set up was wrong so I tweeked it and tweeked it and it still feels horrific.

I thought "ohh well it must be the car", so I left it in the garage and cracked on in the 700 458. I then won a McLaren F1 and thought I had the ultimate 800 class car, nope, same problem, too much power, super twitchy rear end etc, I even downloaded the most popular tune in the store front and it still handled like a pig.

I never increase the power in the car until last. First thing is suspension, widest stickiest tyres, weight reduction, aero package & then small power tweeks to hit the desired tune level.

Dont get me wrong I know these cars in real life would be super powerful and have no driver aids, however, similar cars in GT5 seem to be more manageable i.e. they launch straight and can take a corner without the back end stepping violently under mild acceleration.

Anyone else feel similar or have any tips etc? I don't want to turn on driver aids as I done this for a mate who was over & the cars felt heavy and "bogged down".

P.S. I have a 800pp Audi R8, the 4x4 seems to make that much more stable, so I guess my problem is with RWD cars only...

I can't comment on FM4, but in FM3 with the powerful RWD cars, I always found playing around with the diff settings to be the most beneficial in regards to putting down the power.

I would tend to agree, i have the gifter McLaren F1 too - S700 iirc, and its so tail happy its laughable.

I've resorted to a twin turbo Superleggera to get the power down, any dif setting tips etc would be greatfully received, as much as I love drifting, sideways aint fast...

Think your mashing the power too much. You have to feed the power on in the more powerful RWD cars. The R1 class and some R2 cars do benefit from TC being put on.

Im glad I am not alone.

My 458 is an absolute blast, I can put it through any track without much tail stepping, however, if I want it too, I can pretty much do the track sideways, exactly how it should be!

Trouble is with the McLaren etc, you feel like your fighting the beast rather than working in harmony with it. Its not even the case of getting used to it, after changing my regular drive from a 600pp Impreza to a 700pp 458, it took me less than two races to adapt. With the step up to the 800pp RWD cars, I feel I drive them so badly (sideways or tank slapping) I might as well give up.

how much power does that McLaren have in that state of tune? how much does it weigh?

write both figures down and look at them for a while....

If you have ever seen Top Gear when Jeremy drove the MF1 you will know the F1 was a twitchy evil car to drive. Fast yes, on rails....far from it.

Make sure if playing with a pad you're not using the simulation steering, IMO it's gash, just try normal steering. Other than that i'm afraid i'd only be echoing what's already been said frown

rolleyes

So if it has high power and low weight, it has to drive like a pig? Funny that as a fully tuned McLaren in GT5 was a joy to drive super quick!

This may be a better suggestion, the F40 was a pig in GT5!

First driving the C6 Lemans car I was all over the place fish tailing about, but if you drive like Jenson Button for a bit taking it easy, the grip gets better as the tyres warm up, as long as you stay on the racing line, I found even getting on the invisible marbles on the outside of bends reduces traction.

Clarkson is a hamfisted buffoon (it was cringe-worthy watching him trying to drive the McLaren F1) ...perhaps OP lacks the finesse required too? wink

OP what exactly have you done to the Suspension settings? my Mc F1 is a dream to drive cloud9

I didn't tweek the F1, I downloaded the most popular tune in the storefront (650+ downloads).

Maybe your just a FM Driving God y2blade? bow

I will investigate the tyre theory, that seems a valid point. Annoying you cant put a Spoiler on the F1, it feels like it REALLY needs it!

I will try this, thanks smile

In GT5, you can set the driving aids up for a specific car, is this possible in FM4? i.e. no aids on my 458, TC on my F1 etc.

I use the Forzatune app on my phone to help with my tunes. Its really quite satisfying when it clicks into place.
