Hi.

I'm after a cheapish car and have come across this, http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...

It's very local to me and looks a bargain.

I don't do many miles so MPG isn't a massive concern, unless it's very very low.

Anything I should know about these before looking? Obviuosly Mondeos are common but the V6 less so, therefore, are parts etc expensive.

Basically, am I better of looking at a more standard/2.0 car?

Thanks,

Cramman.

Surely the Autotrader stat of 170 bhp can't be correct?

These V6 ones have dropped a lot of money and are hard to shift. The engine itself is ok. I think they were still using the plastic impeller on the water pump and there were head gasket problems on some cars too. They won't be as good on fuel as the 2.0, although they are a bit quicker.

Look at the Ford forums and you'll see things like rear subframe bushes going. That's common for any Mk3. Other suspension bits suffer wear, maybe a bit sooner than some other cars.

No idea, wouldn't surprise me if AT was wrong though.

Just wondering if its worth a look, seems a good price.

170ps / 168bhp for the 2.5. There was a 3.0 with 201bhp, then the ST220 lump.

We've one of those in work - 2.5V6 LX. It gets around 30mpg, just a little less than the 33mpg my 1.8 LX gets.

However, it really goes far better than the 170hp would suggest. It's a smooth power delivery like the ST220. You don't feel like you're going fast until you notice the rest of the traffic going very slowly. Except they aren't.

I would definitely get one myself - but they're very, very difficult to find. Ideally I'd like a later Mk3 2.5V6 Titanium X, but they're rarer than rocking horse poo. There's one locally here, driven by an old granny. frown

The 3l revs much better than the 2.5 (I've got both). The 2.5's seem to suffer from the head gasket issue, although touch wood my old one is still OK at the moment. Bearings can spin rendering the engine useless as no over sized bearings are available. All in all a good lump & you will deffo feel the difference from a 2l(owned one of those for a few year prior, 2l owners will claim there is no difference!!). Looks a good price, just check the door bottoms for rot.
