At 33,000 miles my gearbox decided to spill it's guts on the motorway on Friday morning. The car's 4 years old now so out of warranty and I'm the 4th owner but everyone I've spoken to about it, including the people at the garage (not a Ford dealer), have suggested I get in touch with Ford about it as the gearbox should go in that way, pieces of it all over the road, on a 4 year old 33k mile car. A guy on fordfiestast.co.uk says that Ford paid out some money toward the repair of his car after the same thing happened even though he was out of warranty.

Does anyone think it would be worth contacting Ford over? I was a bit skeptical as I can't see them taking responsibility when god knows who had the car before me and how they treated it.

It's always worth asking. I suspect their interest, or lack of it, will be coloured by whether the car has a good main dealer service history.

I think you'd have had more chance of goodwill from Ford if you were the 1st or 2nd owner, but you chances are diminishing asa the 4th owner

I would also agree wit6h the poster above, in that full main dealer service hsitory is a must... And I'd take a guess that it will need to have been bought from a Ford dealer too
