Replacement car choice, help!
Discussion
Hi all,
Normally I'm pretty good at this and have a clear idea what I want. The two choices I have narrowed to are quite far apart on the scale.
1. 05 Mercedes CLK220 CDI Sport (amg'ish looking one)
Have fancied one of these for years, makes sense economy wise obviously, cheap insurance, very roomy, still looks great IMO also for it's age.
2. 05 Honda S2000 (facelift)
I have owned a pre facelift a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, wasn't a massive fan of the vtec thing, prefer my big v6's etc but was ok to run, service etc also look good and let's face it a lot more fun to drive. Downsides, expensive insurance, parts, no space what so ever, only 2 seats blah blah.
It's just me and my partner, no plans for kids so it's not like we need the space it's just she has a cooper-s cabrio and two unpricatical cars could be a nuisance at weekends for silly things like groceries, gardening, the odd dump run etc...
Both around the same age, mileage and price give or take a little. I cover around 11-12k per year max also.
Should I dry my eyes wise up and buy the Honda or stick to my original plan have one sensible ish car buy the merc and maybe change hers for the S2000 next year?
I'm almost losing sleep over this!

I thought a big part of the appeal of the S2000 for most was the revvy Vtec engine, so if you're not a fan, why would you even consider another one?
Sounds like a Boxster/ 350Z/ Z4 may be more up your street.
Practicality wise, only you can decide what you need (or think you need), and whether having two cabrios in the household would work for you.
An interesting alternative could be a Z4 coupe. Has a big(ish) boot, larger capacity torquey engine, and early examples just about fall into your budget. Plus they look wonderful.

Valid points cheers, had a 350z roadster which was a fantastic car, only downside were running costs, fuel, tax etc. Kind of why the Honda appeals slightly more than it does. Z4M ideally would be perfect but just stretches out of my budget right now, hopefully next year. I don't think id bother with the regular z4 2.5's or 3.0's really as nice as they are. Boxster was in my choice but rules out due to having to go for a fairly early car with largeish miles to be affordable. Plus I can only imagine the repair and parts bills?!
