Just a quick one.

I have been told I am being made redundant with an end date of 21st Nov.

I've now got an interview on the 11th for a hopeful new position, if I get the new job, will it have any affect on my redundancy payment?

I imagine that if I state that I'm not available until the 22nd Nov, then I'm OK.

Any thoughts.

PS - it's not a huge amount of money but i'd rather I had it than my boss kept hold of it.

Yep - same type of work but completely different firm.

no effect on your redundancy payment as long as your start date is after you have left.

I had this, basically didn't sign anything until the release date, but verbally accepted.

They may be happy to let you go early and for you to retain your redundancy payment. No harm in asking.

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but my wife is in a similar position.

She has been told she will be made redundant in early March, but has already found a new position with a different company who want her to start in early February.

She is going to approach her current employer to see if she can still have all or part of the redundancy (it is a five figure sum) on the basis she is saving them a month's salary.

Has anyone any advice or experience in doing this?

In my experience, being made redundant is an immediate thing. How can they claim a role is "redundant" if they need to keep you for 3 months? (Especially if the 3 months is for handover training!)

I would advise talking to the employer, I can't see how they could withhold any of the redundancy payment if you leave because you were made redundant, the leave date is to be negotiated. If they say that they need you to stay then how can they make the role redundant which surely opens them up to all sorts of pain?

At their discretion they could switch it to a compromise agreement and make a similar sized payment - which they might prefer as it removes the need for consultation and formal process.

She may find the current employer is very agreeable.

I haven't been made redundant myself but the companies I've worked in who made people redundant were happy to see people get into new roles and let them leave as soon as they needed to, provided they could show that they had a valid reason to go early.

Hi, my last day at my current employer was today. I was made redundant in October but managed to get a short term secondment untill March 2017 during my redundancy notice period. My employer (Bank) were happy for me to leave before March aslong as I worked the normal 4 week notice period. I still get my full severance package also.
