Amusing, £40k to sit there and chat footy as many blokes do down the pub!

Good on him if he can get that.

All very well moaning and bhing about people who are successful and get paid shed loads of money. However, look at it this way - if someone offered you the same deal, would you turn it down on the basis that it was too well paid? I doubt it very much. To that end, I can only assume that anyone who is bitter about this is merely jealous..........

Not really BMW. Technically as I fund the BBC - twice - then Im allowed a valid say on the remuneration of its employees and Im sorry, but I disagree with that level of payment, even though I regard AH as a bit of a legend.

It is outlandish, He still earns more now than most Professional footballers hehe

I mean, good for him. He probably invoices the BBC on a Subby basis anyway, So if they are silly enough to pay it. So be it. It does irk slightly, But if the boot were on the other foot. We would all sit there on a saturday night talking through each game. As someone previously mentioned, Most of us in this forum probably do that anyway!

It was only my opinion and I can confess that I am jealous over this revelation.

As I said, you have to ask yourself if you would actually turn this sort of money down if the BBC wanted to pay it you. Would you say no on the basis that you felt licence payers were getting "ripped off"? If you answer yes to this then you are either lying or extremely selfless - either way, I wouldn't believe you.

I guess it depends on how your looking at it.

Is it wrong that he can earn that money for that amount of work? - Not really, and your right that is jealousy on the part of those who wish they could get the same work.

Is it wrong that the BBC, who are complaining they don't have enough funding, are paying anyone a rate of 20K an hour? - Yes as they cant have it both ways.

When I was in the States they showed the same highlights as Match of the Day, but without the analysis. This was infinitely better than what is shown on the BBC. And by the sounds of it, vastly cheaper too.

bks.

Hansen's a prat. He spent all last season slagging Manchester City off, now they are top of the league you can see it is choking him to admit it. He actually squirms....

Remember this is licence payer's money we are talking about, not blaming Hansen for taking it, good luck to him, but the BBC for offering it.

that totally misses the point - its not a question of jealousy and of course i would take the money and we're not blaming hansen for taking it. what we are talking about is taxpayers money in an age of recession - is 40k an appearance really good value for something thousands of others could do just as well. does he really add that much value to the program - people tune in for the goals they dont think oooh alan hansen is on tv i must watch it. would the audience really fall if hansen left???

hmmmm OK. Whether or not he's a prat is totally subjective. It is licence payers money and the BBC have decided to see fit that they use it in this way.

Would people feel you're a prat if you were gifted this much money to give your expert opinion on a subject?

Well to play devils advocate you could argue that there are not "thousands of others who could do just as well". His opinions and analysis are obviously those of an expert and while I'm sure everyone who watches football will have their opinion, they may not all be able to present it on TV.

Your post smacks of hypocrosy - "we're talking about taxpayers (licence fee payers) money in an age of recession" - "I would take the money".......

Your last point - Yes, I would suggest the audience would fall if he left. In the same way as it probably would if any of the other presenters did.

how is it hypocrosy? i'm argueing that they should not be offering the wage not that he should not take it.

i guess we have to disagree as to whether the audiences would fall - personally i doubt it and even if it did it would be worth it to save money. Im sure they are more than enough people who could do the same job - maybe they could make it a competition ad flog it as x factor to be a presenter and save money all round..
